Popular PlayStation Games — August 14th, 2022

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

The MultiVersus hype is dying down this week as the usual suspects — FIFA 22, Fortnite, and Fall Guys — once again retake the lead in our chart of the most popular PlayStation games. The PS Plus games continue to settle.

MultiVersus is landing blow after blow but is starting to pull its punches on this week's most popular PlayStation games chart. The PlayStation Plus Extra games will drop on Tuesday, August 16th, leaving the Essential games to continue bearing the flag.

MultiVersusMultiVersus is still a raging success in the most popular PlayStation games chart

The MultiVersus trophies might be long and gruelling, but so is the game's stickiness. While the game has slipped four places from the top spot, it's actually fairly positive that the total player count has shrunk by 19% and still retains such a high place. Not many games could survive the fall-off, but MultiVersus seems to be still in fighting shape even with the drop-off. This means it can go toe-to-toe and compete with Fall Guys, which only has 8% more players.

Next, we should chat about the PS Plus Essential games for August 2022. Last week, the champion of the three was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, which clocked in at fifth place. Now, it has slipped three places to eighth, but with a massive 36% decrease in total players. That was always going to happen, but it does indicate that one in three players have not picked it up again since last week, at least. Yakuza: Like A Dragon, the last game in the series if you check out our Yakuza series order guide, has retained 16th, while Little Nightmares has slipped from 29th to 31st.

Fall Guys TrophiesFall Guys players have reached new heights

Across the rest of the chart, we just wanted to highlight two decliners and one ascender. The two downward trending games are Elden Ring (up one to 12th) and Stray (down two to 9th). For Elden Ring, this is a case of its long-term form, as we have only recently seen it slide out of the limelight, yet still perform respectively week-on-week. Even so, be warned, that this game is on a downward trend. Stray is falling out of favour much quicker, but with just over a month of top ten finishes under its paw, it can be well happy. Lap that up. As for the ascender, we have Cyberpunk 2077 reentering the chart at 38th. It's nothing spectacular, but we keep seeing it pop in and out of trending games.

That is it for our analysis. Is anything catching your eye? Let us know in the comments. Here are the top 40 popular PlayStation games for the week ending August 14th, 2022.
