PlayStation 4 earns total consoles sales trophy against Xbox One

If there was a trophy for total console units sold, PS4 would take it well ahead of the Xbox One. Brazilian Court documents show Sony's device outsold the Microsoft system by more than two to one.

The PS4 has outsold Xbox One two to one according to new official numbers. As Microsoft continues to be investigated for aquiring Activision Blizzard, a Brazilian Court case with the competition authority has brought forth the official console sales of the 8th generation console from the team in green.

Microsoft's 8th generation console sells well but is comprehensively outgunned

GameLuster first reported the news of the case and found that on page 18 of the
Brazilian Court documents, Microsoft itself had made reference to its lifetime sales numbers for the Xbox One system. The line proper currently reads: “Sony has surpassed Microsoft in terms of console sales and install base, having sold more than twice as many [than] Xbox in the last generation.”

Sony last reported 117.2 million PS4's sold, so to make it halfway the Xbox One would have to have reached 58.6 million units. Since it has sold less, it appears that If Ampere Analysis data-led estimate of Xbox One at 51.1 million units sold is accurate.

PlayStation sales are massive

Microsoft tends not to measure success by the hardware sold, though. Instead, the company relies on engagement numbers through Game Pass, a strategy that has catapulted the company to new success and in the process changing the gaming landscape. Sony has responded with PlayStation Plus' revamp. Even so, a 2-to-1 domination last generation is impressive and an almighty win for the company.
