PS Plus gets no new PS1 games for August showing lack of Sony clarity By Kes Eylers-Stephenson, 11 Aug 2022 FollowtopicsPlayStation PlusKes Eylers-Stephenson PS Plus Premium is not getting any new PS1, PS2, PS3, or PSP games this month for its catalogue. This is the first time the top tier of Sony's subscription service has had a barren month, making many revisit assumed game rollouts.PlayStation Plus Premium games are not getting any additional titles this month from the PS1, PS2, PS3, or PSP era. While the rollout of the service in May and June 2022 contained Wild Arms, Syphon Filter, and more, it has been added to with the likes of Loco Roco and Echoshift since. The absence of Premium additions this month has somewhat changed expectations for Sony's top tier offering going forward.PS Plus Premium is undergoing a droughtPS Plus Premium isn't offering monthly Classic Catalogue updatesPlayStation Plus's mid-month update was announced yesterday for the new Extra and Premium games for August 2022. While there are PS5 games and PS4 games present for the Extra lineup, there are — as we noted at the time — no new games for the Classics Catalogue. This is a trend away from the assumed norm, as July 2022's games had three PSP and PS1 games and the service launched in May with plenty of PS1, PS2, and PSP games (five with trophies). There hasn't been another PS3 game added to the service since launch, though the initial catalogue had a few PlayStation Now stragglers. You can find the full lists of games in our PlayStation Plus guide. Wild Arms is still, arguably, the best game on the service. While Sony never stated explicitly that Premium games would be added every month, it did imply it with the following statement from the initial game lineup reveal. "An additional monthly refresh will occur in the middle of each month with new games across the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans. The number of games refreshed will vary per month." With the initial month adding three Premium games, it was assumed by most that zero games was not a number on the cards for these mid-month refreshes. This is perhaps particularly disappointing for some this month given the fact that games for the Premium tier have been leaking. Dino Crisis as a PS1 Classic has been alluded to on the storefront, along with PSP title Disgaea. Even before the rollout, Ridge Racer 2 and Soulcalibur leaked through the backend, but haven't yet made an appearance (twice leaked, in the case of Ridge Racer). These games are on the PSN backend, so they aren't fake leaks or anything, but the absence of them has led to more fervent expectations with some even linking a PlayStation bosses' rogue tweet likes for The Legend of Dragoon to PlayStation Plus.Dino Crisis has some grizzly faces, but we love it anywayAgain, it's not that the games haven't been added that seems to irritate fans, but rather the lack of any clarity about how games are going to be delivered to the tier that cost people the most amount of money. To paste over potential dour moods, it's worth checking out the best PS Plus Premium games and the retro PS Plus games we most want. I also heartily recommend Lee's Ape Escape PS1 trophies review.
