Sonic Frontiers gotta go fast to find Gamescom hype

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

Sonic Frontiers is still running onto PS4 and PS5, but first, it is swinging by Gamescom 2022. The Sega game is confirmed to have a presence at Opening Night Live thanks to the ever-present show host Geoff Keighley.

Sonic Frontiers is running to Gamescom 2022 for a 'World Premiere' appearance at Opening Night Live ahead of release on PS5 and PS4. Sega's move to an open world more akin to Breath of the Wild has so far need negatively received, so here is hoping that Sonic's gameplay showcase on August 23rd finds better footing.

Announced by Opening Night Live Host Geoff Keighly, we now know that during the event there will be a World Premiere appearance from Sonic Frontiers. Taking place on August 23rd at 8pm CEST / 2pm ET / 11am PT, Keighley has promised a "new look and news" at the event. The image in the teaser trailer seems to be the key art, which might hint that the final stage of marketing is about to run amok.

The last time Sonic Frontiers was let out to play in gameplay footage, things didn't go so well for the blue blur. So, let's hope for better here despite the Big the Cat inclusion. The showcase is set to have over 30 games present, and the host has been teasing that new games will be there; including one from the Subnautica developers. The show, by the way, is shaping up to be two hours long so get your snacks sorted in advance. We are going to be there in person, so we will keep you informed of all the updates as they come through.
