100% completion trophy is a rarity even for paid platinum games

By Sean Lawson,

PS4 horror game, Frightence, has a trophy with a 100% completion rate. It might not sound like a big deal, so let us explain to you why this is quite the shock.

Frightence is a small budget little indie horror game from developers Playstige Interactive. The developers are known for making a bunch of paid-platinum style games such as,
Black Death A Tragic Dirge, Space Explorers Red Planet, and Puzzle Frenzy. As we have recently discovered with the Stray trophies and Resident Evil 7 trophies, it is quite a surprise how many simple trophies can be earned in mere minutes, yet remain locked. However, Frightence has a trophy with 100% completion for PSN users.

This short indie horror game is another 'paid-for' platinum

The EU version of Frightence has a bronze trophy called 'Floor Dweller' that has been unlocked by 100% of PSN users and TT users. The NA version of this 'Floor Dwellers' trophy sits with 99.9% of PSN users unlocking it and 100% of TT users snatching it up. What is so shocking about this trophy is that the Resident Evil 7 trophies prove nearly 1 in 10 don't finish the first cutscene, yet this small indie horror game has a trophy with 100% completion.

Now we don't want to insult the devs of this game, but Frightence is a pretty unfulfilling experience that is clunky, uninspired, and quite frustrating to play. We at TrueTrophies have actually played this game to completion and the scariest aspect of the game is the awful head-bob animation you have to endure as you slowly walk around the exact same corridors over and over again. It takes around 30 seconds to unlock the 'Floor Dwellers' trophy from when the game starts but seeing as how bad the game looks and feels, it's a shock that so many people stuck with it for that long. Heck, 1 in 10 players has not even finished the first chapter of Stray which last around 5-10 minutes.

While this little bronze trophy has garnered such a high completion rate, the same can not be said about the platinum trophy called 'Residents of Nightmare' that sits with a 61.8% completion rate from PSN users in NA. While the EU version of 'Residents of Nightmare' sits with a slightly higher completion rate among PSN users with 73.2%. Normally these paid-for platinum games see a much higher completion rate when it comes to the platinum trophy, just look at the Frogo trophies or The Jumping Pizza trophies as examples. So, initially, we thought the lower bar for entry gave it a higher bronze trophy rate, but a lower tolerance for the game led to fewer completions.

However, speaking of The Jumping Pizza, a bronze trophy called 'It's Pizza time,' might be one of the easiest and simplest trophies that you can earn on PlayStation, simply requiring you to jump 25 times. Yet, somehow, this simple trophy has a lower completion rate than the 'Floor Dweller' trophy in Frightence. Which again, is just mindboggling. Perhaps, then, the lower completion rate for Frightence is about player expectation: some must have thought this was a normal horror game before bowing out at the low quality.

Frightence trophiesFrightence is not a horror gem

It is worth noting that only a small number of individuals have actually played this game so far on TT, which certainly helps keep the completion rate high. These numbers do come from tracked users who are members of a trophy hunting website, meaning the number of players on-site may be a lot lower than have played on PSN. That almost makes the whole 100% bronze thing more impressive.

What do you guys make of this trophy having such a staggering completion rate compared to other games out there? We recently talked more about paid platinum trophies in an article all about a game called 'Press X for Trophies.' These games appear to be coming more of the norm now. How do you feel about them? Have you earned the Frightence platinum trophy? Let me know in the comments below!
