Popular PlayStation Games — August 7th, 2022

The PS Plus monthly games — Yakuza, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2, and Little Nightmares — have hit the most popular PlayStation games for this week. Meanwhile, MultiVersus continues growing in stature as it shocks the top 10.

With the PS Plus games for August, 2022 available, the Most Popular Playstation Games chart for the week has changed a lot since last week. In particular, the presence of MultiVersus has shocked some long-term residents of the top echelons.

MultiVersus reigns supreme in the ring

We were impressed last week when the WB-published MultiVersus found sixth place on the chart in a week that contained lovable PS Plus hit Stray (now in 6th itself). Now, we are bowled over as players keep struggling toward finishing those tricky MultiVersus trophies and buoy the game into the top spot. Since last week, the player count has increased by 27%, with a 3:2 ratio of players on the PS5. Mind you, it has only just pipped FIFA 22 to the post with a 0.2% difference between the two total player counts.

PlayStation Plus is making life equally as interesting across the rest of the chart as games find their first position since becoming 'free' for players with access to Essential games. The best performer is Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 in fifth, which is a blazing hot start for most games. This remake is class, even if it has some of the harder trophies in the PS Plus catalogue this month.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon is pretty wild, even by Yakuza standards

Then we have Yakuza Like a Dragon all the way down in 16th. We are a little surprised by this even for a relatively niche JRPG, especially considering the other Yakuza games are coming to PS Plus later this month and throughout the year. Following that, Little Nightmares manages a low debut at 29th, but this is generally a big month of games and there is more competition than ever with Extra games and Premium games filling up players' libraries.
