What will The Last Of Us Part 1's trophy list for PS5 look like?

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

The Last of Us Part 1 trophy list is going to have to change from the platinum requirements for the PS3 original and the PS4 remaster when it arrives for PS5 in September — but how will TLOU do it? Let's do a deep dive.

The Last of Us Part 1 won't have online trophies, so the trophy list and platinum will have to be changed for the PS5 when it releases on September 2nd. In this prediction piece, we break down how it might differentiate from the PS3 game and the PS4 remaster.

Predicting The Last of Us Part 1 trophies highlights platinum potential

The first element to note is that a few The Last of Us Part 1 trophies will be easy to predict because the road to platinum will probably not have story-related bronzes, silvers, and golds. Taking a look at The Last of Us (PS3) trophies reveals eight difficulty-related trophies split into two groups — four for the base game's Easy, Medium, Hard and Survivor difficulty story completions and the same for trophies for a New Game Plus run. We can assume, given that Naughty Dog has used the same non-chapter-related unlocks for The Last of Us Remastered trophies, that we will see the same eight trophies on PS5.

Then we have the collectable trophies that will be present in The Last of Us Part 1. We think this boils down to 11 trophies in the base PS3 game for collecting all Firefly pendants, comics, artefacts, and training manuals (plus the overarching Scavenger trophy); unlocking all shiv doors; fully upgrading all weapons and Joel; crafting all weapons, and engaging in Ellie's jokes and optional conversations. These are repeated in the Remaster and The Last of Us Part II trophies have collectathon counterparts. Thus, we think that The Last of Us Part 1 will also have the 11 collectable trophies.

The Last of Us Part 1The Last of Us Part 1 trophies are going to have to straddle a line

However, as mentioned above, the trade-off here is that The Last of Us Part 1 cannot have any multiplayer trophies. This is because Naughty Dog is developing a separate The Last of Us multiplayer game which will probably tie into that Sony's plan to have 10 live-service games. What that means is that there will not be four awful multiplayer trophies from the original Factions or the five multiplayer trophies from the remaster. This is definitely good news, as both were incredibly time-consuming and potentially voidable if you messed up badly.

To replace these, we mustn't forget that both editions of The Last of Us have had DLC trophies for Left Behind. The Left Behind trophies were a combination of what we saw above, with difficulty, collectables, and some miscellaneous trophies thrown in. Both lists were identical, but the question is whether similar trophies will be used in the base game for the DLC pack since Naughty Dog is treating the expansion as another chapter in the Part 1 trailers.

The Last of Us Part 1Will the The Last of Us Part 1's trophies be strangle worthy?

Given the carnage of the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection trophies, which have a DLC list for a whole game required for the platinum in the base game, we know that Naughty Dog games are sometimes whacky with trophies. Here, and this is just an educated guess, we think the DLC list might be incorporated into the base game in some way as TLOU Part 1 endeavours to unify all of the first parts of Ellie's life.

Will The Last of Us Part 1 get any new trophies?

Well, new features and modes will probably have a role to play. The two likely candidates are a trophy for the “permadeath” mode and one for the "speedrun-focused" mode. Both have a history in Naughty Dog games as trophy focuses, with Grounded Mode having its own DLC trophies in the original games and speedrun trophies populating the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Remastered Trophies, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Remastered Trophies, and the Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Remastered Trophies (though remaster experts Bluepoint probably had something to do with those inclusions). Seeing Naughty Dog return to this PS5 version would be a good way for the studio to get more gamers into these game modes, so we think a trophy like this might be present.

The Last of Us Part 1The Last of Us Part 1 trophy list predictions have us sobbing, too.

Other possible improvements in gunplay and animation cycles might hint at combat-orientated trophies, but that would suggest the developer is following the lead of Uncharted's list rather than the TLOU. Naughty Dog's lists for The Last of Us series have been really stringent with only 24 trophies in the base game for all three titles. Therefore, we simply don't imagine any combat-orientated trophies will appear in this entry, despite the gameplay improvements.

While we would love to see some innovative trophies with new tasks to complete, it probably won't happen. In short, we will see collectables and difficulty trophies, with Left Behind DLC possibly included in the main list. As for extra trophies, it's possible we will see permadeath and speedrun trophies also included. There won't be multiplayer trophies, which will be welcome news to most. How do you feel about this as a trophy list set-up? Are there any new miscellaneous tasks you would like to see? Get in the comments and discuss!
