Ghost of Tsushima crisps obsess Japanese PlayStation fans

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

Ghost of Tsushima from PlayStation Studios' own Sucker Punch might have a serious samurai swinging a katana at the helm, but somehow there is a snack product that has taken off in Japan that has diminished that vibe: crisps.

Ideally, we would have a cool story about Ghost of Tsushima trophies or the rumoured Ghost of Tsushima 2 development. Instead, we have this wild story coming out of Japan that we can't resist sharing, all about Japanese gamers falling in love with "potato chips with honour."

Ghost of Tsushima 2 news on hold while honourable snacks dominate

Thank you Famitsu, for bringing us this wonderful news of the Ghost of Tsushima crisps. Of course, Sucker Punch's marvellous title is part of the PS Plus Extra games lineup. Luckily, for context, you won't need to invest 80 hours to understand the simple joy of the crisp.

You see, the salt from this particular Calbee's potato chip is from the island of Tsushima. Fans of the PlayStation Studios game have made it popular thanks to the general meme-ability of stuffing a potato sliver into poor protagonist Jin Saki's mouth. As suggested by maguroudon, people have been calling them "potato chips with honour" — a slogan we at TT certainly approve of.

This normally wouldn't be enough for us to make a story out of it, but Sucker Punch — a studio that is not working on Sly Cooper or Infamous PS5 sequels, by the way — has now received a batch of the crisps from a sneaky Ghost. Brian Fleming, co-founder and producer at the team, posted a video of the staff roaming the studio building with crisps in hand. By our count, we have several salt obsessives and one salt OD, but the Tsushima vibes are off the charts.

The game might not have made it into our best PS4 games list yet, but check out our poll for a slight spoiler as to where it might end up! What do you think of the news? We couldn't resist writing it up and can't wait to see what you have to say about it in the comments!
