Update: We have added Contra Rogue Corps and Ghostrunner to the list for you to try your hardest to platinum throughout May 2024. In this ranking, you will find the hardest games at the bottom of the list!
PS Plus has an array of great games to jump into on both PS5 and PS4. To complement our hardest platinum trophies list, we are asking: what are the hardest platinum trophies on PS Plus Premium and Extra right now?

The 24 hardest PS Plus platinum trophies on Extra and Premium

If you are able to earn these platinums, they will increase your TrueTrophies score by an astronomical amount! While these trophies will be undoubtedly hard, our definition of difficulty varies. Some of them will be easier than others, some may be technically challenging, some may require genre knowledge, and some may be quite achievable if you have hundreds of hours to spare doing monotonous and repetitive tasks. So, let's dive into the hardest platinum trophies on PS Plus.

24. Batman Arkham Knight

Batman Arkham Knight's story follows iconic villains Scarecrow, the Arkham Knight, and Deathstroke, who have banded together and made an alliance on Halloween night with a plan to drown Gotham City in fear toxin and unmask Batman. It is up to you to take to the streets of Gotham and protect the city you love so dearly.

The Batman Arkham Knight trophies are no joke, with only 0.60% of PSN players netting the platinum trophy called 'I AM the Batman.' It looks as though trophies like 'Brutality 101' (perform 15 different combat moves in one FreeFlow), 'Blunt Trauma' (perform every type of predator takedown), and 'A Leap of Faith' (complete eight different jumps over 100 meters) are just a few of the trophies impeding players trying to earn this platinum. Do you think you'll be able to don the mask and triumph where many have failed?

23. Brawlout

  • Here are the Brawlout trophies
  • Time to platinum: 70-80 hours
  • Difficulty: 6/10
  • Missables:
Brawlout is a game not all that different from the legendary Super Smash Bros. series — a formula many games have attempted to emulate to varying degrees of success (MultiVersus, Brawlhalla, and so). Brawlout slam-dunked into the world back in January 2016, but it would be a couple of years (2018) until the game would find its way onto the PS4. This platform brawler has received a mixed bag of reviews over the years but still provides a pleasant experience for those wanting something familiar to the Super Smash Bros. series on PlayStation.

Unfortunately, the trophies are a meandering slog to get through. Housing a platinum trophy called ‘Exemplar,’ players are in for one rough bout earning this platinum that currently sits with a devastatingly low completion rate of 0.10% on PSN. Looking over the list, it would seem that the multiplayer and mastery trophies are the main culprits stopping players from adding the platinum to their collection!

SeanL

22. Ghostrunner

  • Here are the Ghostrunner trophies
  • Time to platinum: 20-30 hours
  • Difficulty: 7/10
  • Missables:
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
Ghostrunner is one hell of a tough and fast-paced sequel well worth checking out if you enjoy a solid yet fair challenge. While the game is certainly fair and a lot of it comes down to trial and error, don't expect it to be a walk in the park. You're going to need to master your acrobatic skills, have expert precision, expert swordsmanship, and the tenacity to overcome anything that the game may throw at you.

While a lot of the trophy list for Ghostrunner is tricky, it's the gold trophy 'R Is For Running' that will likely prove to be the trickiest of the bunch. This particular trophy requires you to beat a level without dying. Something that you will naturally do a lot of in Ghostrunner. On top of that, there is a sea of collectibles you will need to keep an eye out for as you race through each level.

Overcoming all of that will see you earn the platinum 'GR Project Complete' before you even know it. Currently, this platinum sits with an overall completion rate of 0.80% on PSN. Can you come out victorious and earn this platinum trophy?

SeanL

21. Contra Rogue Corps

Contra Rogue Corps takes place two years after the events of Contra 3 The Alien Wars. Residing in Damned City, you must overcome an arsenal of odds that are stacked against you and use everything at your disposal to survive. Due to the catastrophic events of the Alien Wars, Damned City has now become a post-apocalyptic environment and is now home to all kinds of dangerous mysteries you may want to avoid — or you could blast a hole straight through them.

In terms of trophies, you are in for a real slog. You best be ready to S rank every level, compete in a bunch of online game modes, perform specific amounts of special moves, complete a level taking no damage, beat a level never firing a gun, and more trophies like that.

Currently, the platinum trophy 'Official CONTRA Fan Club President' sits with an overall completion rate of 0.10% on PSN. So, are you going to try and add this one to the collection?

SeanL

20. The Technomancer

In The Technomancer you play as protagonist Zachariah, a former delinquent and now a powerful technomancer. Zachariah comes from Abundance, one of the powerful water guilds on the red planet. Not long after his initiation into the world of techomancy, he finds himself on the run from the guild's secret police and must utilize all of his powers and weapons in order to survive. You'll meet helpful companions along the way who will be crucial assets in combat.

The trophy list is riddled with missables that you will need to be incredibly diligent with if you want to avoid unnecessary playthroughs. Sadly, you are also going to have to beat the game on the hardest difficulty option available which will be a mode that tests your patience on a regular basis. Currently, the aptly-named 'Platinum Trophy' has an overall completion rate of 0.40% on PSN. Do you think you can raise this?

SeanL

19. Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop

Why are the Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop trophies so difficult? Well, the game looks to be incredibly grindy and will take well over 100 hours before you even catch a glimpse of the platinum trophy unlocking. The platinum trophy 'Connecting Worlds' currently sits with an overall completion rate of 0.10% on PSN, which is pretty darn low.

On TT we can see that nearly 4,000 players have started the PS5 version of the game, yet only 31 have managed to actually obtain the elusive platinum. The list is filled with objectives for completing all the side missions, finding all the collectibles, and a sea of random one-off objectives that look particularly time-consuming. We think this is one platinum we will be better off avoiding for now.

SeanL

18. Desperados III

  • Here are the Desperados III trophies
  • Time to platinum: 40-50 hours
  • Difficulty: 7.5/10
  • Missables:
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
Desperados III is an incredible game with beautiful levels to explore and a well-written story that will have you hooked until the closing credits. The story takes place in 1875 and is a prequel to the first game in the series, Desperados Wanted Dead or Alive. You'll explore the origin of protagonist John Cooper. The story follows John as he chases down an evil bandit leader named Frank. A man who is responsible for the death of John's father, James Cooper.

Now, the trophies are going to require a bit of work to get through, but are certainly not the hardest ones you'll come across on this list. However, you will need to beat at least one level on the hardest difficulty available, earn over 90 badges, pull off a variety of outlandish tasks, and rack up a pretty high body count to earn this platinum trophy. Currently, the platinum 'Desperado' sits with an overall completion rate of 0.50% on PSN. So, have you got the stuff to make it through this game and bag the platinum?

SeanL

17. Empire of Sin

  • Here are the Empire of Sin trophies
  • Time to platinum: 100+ hours
  • Difficulty: 8/10
  • Missables: 2
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
Empire of Sin is a strategy and turn-based game that sees you at the center of the ruthless criminal underworld of 1920s Prohibition-era Chicago. You pick from one of 14 characters inspired by and based upon real-life gangsters as you attempt to build your empire and outfox your competitors.

The trophies are a literal nightmare, with the platinum trophy 'Overachiever' asking you to complete the game as all 14 different gangsters, then trophies like 'Lone Wolf' want you to beat the entire game without recruiting a single gangster — isn't that the point? To build our empire and recruit? So yeah, only 0.10% of PSN users have snatched up this platinum and we can see why. This is one platinum that requires a lot of patience, determination, and time. Do you think you can earn it?

SeanL

16. Disco Elysium Final Cut

Disco Elysium is a PS Plus Extra treat, something Staff Writer Lee talks about to us at work and in his article where he dissects the game and lets you know whether you should play it. The game won't be for everyone, it's a dark and depressing game filled with themes some may struggle to cope with. However, if you can handle that, then you are in for one of the most unique and engaging RPGs you may ever play.

When it comes to the trophies, be ready for a slog. The trophies aren't inherently hard per se, but if you want to get the platinum as quickly as possible you will need at least two full playthroughs and a hell of a lot of save jumping. The entire trophy list is pretty much missable and one wrong choice can lock you out of a trophy until your next run. Hence, save scumming is going to be integral to earning this platinum.

As it stands, the platinum trophy 'Disco Elysium' sits with an overall completion rate of 0.20% on PSN. Proving that many players just don't have the time or patience to snatch this one up. Do you?

SeanL

15. Dragon Ball FighterZ

Dragon Ball FighterZ is a tough-as-nails fighter that will see you unleashing your inner Super Saiyan as you continuously fail to earn the trophies you so desperately need for the platinum. The game features a brand-new storyline fans of Dragon Ball have never experienced before and allows players to meet the new and mysterious villain, Android 21. Get ready for some over-the-top action as you fight to save the world, again.

The trophy list doesn't have any difficulty-related trophies or missables to worry about, but there are a number of brutal multiplayer trophies to work through. The gold trophy 'My Power Level is 530,000' requires you to earn 530,000 BP in online matches. To earn BP you need to win these matches, which means you're going to be spending a tremendous amount of time in the online mode. Don't even get us started on the horrific grind for the 'Set for Life' trophy. Seriously, it's no wonder that the platinum trophy 'Trophy Triumphant' has an overall completion rate of 0.30% on PSN. Do you think you can boost that number up at all?

SeanL

14. Evil Genius 2 World Domination

Evil Genius 2 is a satirical lair builder, where players take control of an Evil Genius and set their plans for world domination in motion. That's right, in this game you're playing the bad guy and need to find a way to stop the forces of good from interrupting your plan of total global control. So, recruit your henchmen, dispose of your competitors, and become the ruler this world may not want, but will indeed have.

The trophy list for Evil Genius 2 is hard, time-consuming, and a real hair-puller. You'll need to beat the entire game on the hardest difficulty available, steal all possible loot in a single playthrough, and defeat your enemies under certain circumstances. All in all, it's a pretty hectic list full of challenges that most will struggle to overcome. The platinum trophy currently resides with an overall completion rate of 0.10% on PSN and we aren't surprised by this at all.

SeanL

13. Dark Rose Valkyrie

The Dark Rose Valkyrie trophies look as though they could take over one hundred hours to earn — though without a proper guide anywhere to detail every step you need to take, this could be an even longer grind than we think. The platinum 'All Complete' sits with a completion rate of 0.60% on PSN, proving that this isn't a simple RPG platinum, like Ni No Kuni 2.

Searching every nook and cranny of the internet reveals discussions on how brutal and difficult this platinum trophy can be, particularly with some nasty enemies and bosses that can wipe the floor with you in mere moments if you aren't careful. There appears to be a pretty unforgiving grind to the game as well with 'Skill Master' (reach level 999 with any stat) and 'Uniform Master' (strengthen uniform to its maximum). There is also a difficult related trophy, 'Perfect Savior,' which tasks you with unlocking the true ending on very hard difficulty. So, all in all, this looks like one hell of a nightmare to work through, but maybe it's a nightmare that could be worth it for you.

SeanL

12. Dead Cells

  • Here are the Dead Cells trophies
  • Time to platinum 50-60 hours
  • Difficulty: 8.5/10
  • Missables: 11
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
Dead Cells throws you into the role of a nameless protagonist who is suffering from a case of amnesia. Locked up in a prison, you must now use your wits and abilities to help escape these confides and remember exactly who you are. Oh, but if you die, you start right back at the beginning of the prison. So, good luck with that.

Dead Cells does not have an easy platinum to earn. You will come face-to-face with a variety of difficulty-related trophies, time-sensitive trophies, and trophies that require you to grind your life away. The platinum trophy currently has an overall completion rate of 0.40%. The completion rate just goes to prove that the title is pretty darn harsh on those who wish to earn its platinum. Can you over come these challenges and beat the odds?

SeanL

11. Soulstice

  • Here are the Soulstice trophies
  • Time to platinum: 50-60 hours
  • Difficulty: 8.5/10
  • Missables: 1
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
The Soulstice trophies became available through the PS Plus Extra and Premium new games of June 2023. While the game looks like a lot of fun, anyone who does pick this title up will be met with a brutal time while attempting to earn the platinum trophy. The platinum 'The Solstice of Souls' currently has an overall completion rate of 0.30% on PSN.

The game features difficulty-related trophies, missables, and pesky challenges that will keep you from earning the platinum trophy. The most devious of them all looks to be the gold trophy 'They wanted yet another monster,' which challenges players to beat the entire game on the hardest difficulty, Chimera, whilst simultaneously earning at least a platinum rank by the games end. Yeah, we think this is one platinum trophy we are going to avoid for now.

SeanL

10. World War Z

  • Here are the World War Z trophies
  • Time to platinum: 100+ hours
  • Difficulty: 8.5/10
  • Missables:
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
World War Z brings the ferocious and terrifying zombies of the book and movie to the video game format, and oh boy is it horrifying. There is only one thing more brutal than the zombies, and that's the platinum trophy 'Came back haunted.' The platinum currently has an overall completion rate of 0.20% on PSN and will take over 100 hours to earn. Yikes, that's tough.

The World War Z trophies are filled with time-consuming objectives, difficulty-related trophies, multiplayer trophies, and other difficult tasks that will cause rage to fester up from inside you. If you think you can handle all of the aforementioned trophies, then, by all means, jump into World War Z and see if you can snatch that platinum. We'll be rooting for you!

9. Judgment

  • Here are the Judgment trophies
  • Time to platinum 80-100 hours
  • Difficulty: 8.5/10
  • Missables: 7
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
If our Yakuza trophy breakdown proved anything, it’s that games in this series are notorious for having grueling and deviously difficult platinum trophies to unlock. The spin-off to these carnage-fulled action-adventure games, Judgment, also has the same sadistic side when it comes to building a trophy list.

This trophy list shares a lot of similarities with those Yakuza trophy lists — unsurprisingly — featuring difficulty-related trophies for beating the game on 'Legend' difficulty and many trophies linked to side missions. Only a small handful of people have managed to earn the platinum trophy ‘The Greatest Detective’ which sits with a completion rate of 0.50% on PSN. While this difficult platinum is enough to turn most gamers away, we highly recommend looking past it for this one and enjoying the whacky world that Judgment cooks up at regular intervals.

SeanL

8. Frostpunk Console Edition

The Frostpunk Console Edition trophies are brutal — majorly brutal actually, and should only be attempted by those who really want to taste what insanity truly is. As of right now, the platinum trophy 'The Captain' has an overall completion rate of 0.10% on PSN, proving that a horrific challenge lays in wait for any that may attempt it.

Aside from the fact the game will take at least 100 hours to platinum, you are going to have to contend with a minimum of 13 playthroughs before you can call that platinum yours. You also have an insane amount of difficulty-related trophies to contend with, whilst also pulling off some truly heinous tasks that will break even the most veteran of gamers out there. We don't recommend attempting this one if you are of the faint of heart.

The trophies 'Perfect Hagalaz' and 'Shun the Gods - Odin,' require you to beat Hagalaz while taking no damage and defeat Odin with no god powers, respectively. These are absolutely two of the most challenging tasks asked of you and get brought up consistently online by fans. However, the general consensus appears to be that the game is highly dependent on skill, patience, a lot of luck, and some good RNG. You'll have your work cut out for you if you think of attempting this one.

SeanL

7. Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair

The Earth Defense Force series isn't known for having quick and easy platinum trophies — quite the opposite in fact — and Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair is a prime example of this fun, yet incredibly tedious platinum task. In this game, you are tasked with saving Earth from a variety of giant-sized bugs and arachnids that are attempting to take over the planet. It's a whacky, over-the-top, addictive time that you need to experience at least once in your life.

Just be prepared for a grind if you plan on earning all of the trophies, as you will be putting in hundreds upon hundreds of hours to try and earn the platinum trophy 'All Complete.' Currently, only 0.10% of PSN users have heard that glorious sound of a platinum trophy unlocking. The reasons why? Well, the trophies 'Rangers Lead the Way,' 'Fencing Master,' 'Lord of the Wings,' and 'Incoming Trophy' requires you to beat every mission with each character and do it all on the hardest difficulty that there is. Yeah, we understand why the completion rate is so low.

SeanL

6. Mighty No .9

  • Here are the Mighty No. 9 trophies
  • Time to platinum: 25-30 hours
  • Difficulty: 9/10
  • Missables: 3
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
The Mighty No. 9 trophies are hard, brutal, unforgiving, and many other words that can be used to sway you from attempting this platinum. Not only is this platinum challenge comprised of difficulty-related trophies, time trials, multiple challenges, and other pesky trophies, but the game itself is also very lackluster in the content it provides and was quite a disappointment for the many who had funded it.

The platinum trophy 'Trophy Master' sits with a completion rate of 0.10% on PSN and we don't think this percentage will be increasing anytime soon. You've trophies for beating boss rush mode in 20 minutes, beating the game on hard without ever needing to use a continue, beating the entire game in 60 minutes or less, and more taxing trophies like these. If you are feeling brave, and also like a bit of a masochist, then Mighty No 9 could be the game for you!

5. Warhammer Vermintide 2

Warhammer Vermintide 2 is a chaotic 4-player co-op action game, best known for its intense and bloody first-person melee combat. In Vermintide 2, you will take on the role of one of five heroes who have returned to the frontlines to take on an even greater threat than before – the combined forces of a ruinous Chaos army and the swarming Skaven horde. The only thing standing between utter annihilation and victory is you and your allies.

The trophies will push you to the very edges of your sanity and then shove you over that edge without a second thought. The platinum trophy currently sits with a 0.10% completion rate on PSN, proving it is going to take all your determination in order to earn it. The main culprits stopping people from earning the platinum appear to be trophies all related to completing 'Legends' which are tough feats that require extreme coordination to pull off. Do you think you are up to the task?

SeanL

4. Surgeon Simulator

You probably remember Surgeon Simulator from back in the day when nearly every gaming YouTuber out there uploaded a video of themselves performing the most heinous and downright preposterous surgeries — and we loved it. From hammering someone's rib cage open and carelessly plopping in a heart and ticking the surgery as complete, to performing laser eye surgery on a ship that's hurtling towards outer space, everything about this game is obscene and insane — and that's before we even look at the trophy list.

The trophies will test even the most veteran of gamers out there, all you have to do is look at the platinum trophy 'There is Nothing More To Teach' to see that only 0.10% of PSN players have managed to snag this one — a sign you are also going to struggle immensely. If we still haven't scared you away from attempting this platinum trophy, then all we can do is wish you lots of luck on your journey to becoming the ultimate doctor, nurse, or serial killer.

SeanL

3. XCOM 2

  • Here are the XCOM 2 trophies
  • Time to platinum: 100+hours
  • Difficulty: 9/10
  • Missables: 13
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
XCOM 2 is a hard, grueling, and downright sadistic platinum trophy to try and earn. With so many challenges requiring you to complete specific objectives that are already hard enough on their own. Add in the fact that you need to do all of this on one of the hardest difficulty settings there is and this game becomes the embodiment of nightmares.. The platinum trophy 'Commander' sits with a completion rate of 0.10% on PSN. If you are one of the lucky few to have earned this malicious little platinum, congratulations, and also: how the hell did you manage that?

Taking a look at the trophies in more detail, we can see that the likes of 'Immortal Commander,' 'Exquisite Timing,' and 'The Few and the Proud' are some of the more troubling ones to earn. All of these trophies require you to beat the game on either Legendary difficulty or complete the game on Commander+ and fulfill specific requirements that are incredibly challenging to pull off. We salute any find soldiers who managed to stick with this turn-based strategy game from 2K and Firaxis — bravo.

Kes

2. Redout 2

  • Here are the Redout 2 trophies
  • Time to platinum: 70+ hours
  • Difficulty: 9/10
  • Missables:
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
It's not Wipeout and it's not F-Zero, but it is an anti-gravity racer that will rip out your soul if you pursue all the Redout 2 trophies for the platinum trophy. Made by 34BigThings, it's a hardcore racer that teeters on the edge of arcade and simulation (I don't know how you simulate anti-gravity, but it certainly tries) and is insanely difficult even for veterans of the genre. A combination of hard-to-handle controls and crazy high speeds make the game hard enough even if you're not gunning for the platinum.

So, imagine all that, then realize that the trophy list will push your skills even further while being a pain in the rear booster engine. You will have to finish a campaign that is more than 50 hours long for most players, complete punishing optional objectives in every event, and you'll also need to get gold medals in most of them. Then you'll need to get online and not just compete, but win 50 times. Then, if aren't already in tears with four DualSense's in bits on the floor smashed in frustration, you'll have to buy some DLC in order to qualify for the base game 'Fashion Racer' trophy. Now, that's just dirty racing.

1. I Am Bread

  • Here are the I Am Bread trophies
  • Time to platinum: 40-50 hours
  • Difficulty: 9.5/10
  • Missables:
  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
The I Am Bread trophies may sound as though they should only take a few hours to earn and be pretty simple all in all, but they are anything but. These devious trophies will cause your sanity to collapse in on itself and all that will be left of you is a hollow husk. No, seriously, these trophies are that troublesome. The platinum trophy currently has an overall completion rate of 0.10% on PSN, which is staggeringly low.

The brutality of the trophy list comes from having to get A++ on every level the game has on offer in story mode, cheese hunt, zero-g, and bagel races. So, yeah, it's pretty demanding and will require you to have a steel will and the patience of a saint. There are also a bevy of miscellaneous tasks that will be incredibly difficult to pull off, though if you are able to get the previously mentioned ranking on all the levels, we highly doubt any of the other trophies will pose much of a threat. So, are you ready to get toasted? I don't know, I tried to use a pun there...

There ends this hardest platinum trophies for PS Plus Premium, Extra. We hope you don't break too many PS5 and PS4 controllers if you do aim to earn any of these platinums! What do you guys make of all these difficult trophies? Make sure to check out our best PlayStation Plus games article for more challenges. Sound off in the comments below and bragging rights are in order for anyone who has even just one of these five platinums!
