Winter Soldier leaks for Marvel’s Avengers — here’s why you might care

By Lee Brady,

The Winter Soldier has reportedly been leaked for Square Enix’s The Avengers, which despite usually not mattering to you, might in fact matter a little thanks to recent PS Plus news.

It’s safe to say Marvel’s Avengers has been a bit of a disappointment — in fact, don’t just take our word for it, take the word of its publisher Square Enix, who are quoted back in November 2021 referring to the game as “disappointing.” So, when news of a new character joining the roster comes our way, like Spider-Man, or in this instance The Winter Soldier, we tend not to report it too much.

Marvel’s Avengers might suddenly be of interest to PS Plus subscribers

winter soldierTired brains everywhere upon hearing Winter Soldier might be joining Marvel's Avengers.

However, a new leak of Bucky Barnes joining the roster has hit at a good time for PS Plus subscribers, as the game was very recently announced to be one of the new games for PS Plus Extra and Premium in July 2022. That means, for a whole host of players who might not have a copy, or indeed might not have friends who own a copy and would be willing to join them on a mission, suddenly anyone on PS Plus Extra tier or higher can jump into a game of Marvel’s Avengers and check out the new hero.

It’s unlikely that the new hero will change any of the problems players have with the live service, but it’s at least an option to check out this month for PS5 and PS4 players. It’s interesting that, despite the pending approval of Marvel’s Avengers to Embracer Group following Square Enix’s sale of developer Crystal Dynamics, the game is continuing to receive updates, so perhaps there’s a bright future for the title merely down the road.

What do you think of the new addition to the Avengers cast? Will the game’s addition to PS Plus convince you to give it another whirl? Or will your eyes remain glazed and interested every time we post about this game? Let us know in the comments below.
