Update: We have added our favorite game from the PlayStation Showcase 2023, Towers of Aghasba, as well as Ultros, and removed any released games!
There are some fantastic new and exciting PlayStation indies coming to PS5 and PS4 in 2023 and 2024. The PlayStation family is getting some really varied and interesting games from the independent scene to add to the upcoming PS5 and PS4 games in the AA space. So, we want to prepare you for them as they arrive with the hope they have a shot at the best indie games on PS5.

After writing our Ultros preview, we can't help but admit we are incredibly excited to get the Ultros trophies on our profile. The trippy-looking platformer has philosophy and gardening at its core, with a rather satisfying-looking combat system for all you action game fans. The first-time developers are really trying to strike with something blazingly new here, so we can't wait to see more of Ultros before it hits PS5 and PS4 in 2024.

Towers of Aghasba

We really want those Towers of Aghasba trophies, dude. Coming in 2024 to PS5, this indie is a combination of village building and adventure as you voyage into strange fantasy lands in order to keep nurturing a growing biosphere of plants and village folk. It sounds awesome and we love the slightly scary artstyle here. We can't wait!

Pacific Drive

Coming to PS5 in 2024, Pacific Drive is a weird-looking car survival game that we just can't get enough of before release. While we wait for the Pacific Drive trophies, the team at Ironwood Studios has been slowly reeling out more footage that, frankly, makes us laugh at the label of indie — just check out our Pacific Drive impressions. It'll be you and your station wagon roaming the Zone before you run out of fuel. With roguelike elements and the promise of weird stuff — its uniqueness is haunting our hopes and dreams.

Potion Craft

Potion Craft trophies will finally come to PS5 and PS4 in 2023, having already released on nearly everything else. It involves chilling out, collecting ingredients, and making potions for your town. Plenty of tools are involved in the complicated process, so you'll need a video game chemistry degree — aka imagination — but we know TrueAchivements Staff Writer Heidi loves this game. We can't wait to finally play it this year!

Mail Time

Mail Time trophies are coming to PS5 and PS4 in 2023. In this puzzle platformer, you will be delivering those letters faster than Royal Mail as a little mushroom sprite. Grumblewood Grove is supposed to be a pretty chill place, so we are in.

Ikonei Island An Earthlock Adventure

From Snowcastle Games comes Ikonei An Earthlock Adventure. This farming and village-building sim is on the way to consoles in 2023 and we tell you what, it looks like it is going to really scratch that itch of easygoing Stardew Valley-like fun. Yes, we want our plants lined up perfectly. No, you may not share our world.

Schim is being developed by Extra Nice Games and has a very cute concept in which you play as a little frog-esque shadow creature looking to join once more to the person whom they originally belong to. The gameplay, judging by the trailer, is like a long-form puzzle version of Frogger meets Rain.

The trailer shows a number of scenarios where you'll have to think a little outside the box to make progress, including a moment where it seems likely that you have to use the shadow of a parking lot motor arm to get across the road, but really will need to cause a mechanical accident in order to traverse the entire street via the shadows of the backed up traffic. It's very neat stuff and looks like a great addition to the library of both PS4 and PS5. The game has not yet received the timeframe for release, so expect a 2023 release date.

From the creator of Towerfall Ascension, a game that I am still mad didn't make it onto Lee's best co-op games list, and Celeste comes the game Earthblade. You can tell, the music and the art style make use of those wonderous staple Maddy Makes Games iconographies. It's self-described as a more Metroidvania-style game and looks like it has way more dialogue than ever before, so we are hyped as heck. The 2023 release schedule is in place but no console plans have us tempting fate with an inclusion here, but we think you can be pretty secure in knowing a PlayStation release will come.

Little Devil Inside

Little Devil InsideLittle Devil Inside is coming to PlayStation... sometime?

Little Devil Inside trophies are coming at somepoint. It has been teetering between release dates for a long time now, so who knows? A missing release date aside, the point is that this is one of our most highly anticipated games. The Russian Doll art style seems to be matched by an interesting and weird gameplay loop. The latest gameplay trailer showed off three levels of gameplay, with the surface level being a map, then a small area, before zooming in on some third-person survival action. Its steampunk Victorian travel vibes have us in love... when are you coming home, darling?

Vikings on Trampolines

Vikings on TrampolinesVikings on Trampolines has the good, good pixel-art

Our Vikings on Trampolines impressions were really positive. While we don't know that it is coming to consoles for certain, we would say it is 99.9% likely that this is the case. In any case, the co-op genius is beyond reason, with you and up to three mates able to bounce on trampolines in a co-op mission or compete in a variety of whacky games. We can't stress just how fun and simple it was, so get on it my Viking pals.

Boom. That is a lot of indies! Let us know in the comments what you are looking forward to, and let us know if there are any more we have missed!
