Here are the best PlayStation Plus games on Premium, Extra, and Essential on Sony's subscription service for December 2023. The following PS Plus games are available in most regions, but if you're on the hunt for some of the service's best games, you're going to want to check out the full list below.

The best PS Plus games

With this selection of PS Plus games, the TrueTrophies team has curated a selection of games considered to be the best of the best across every tier of PS Plus. However, that doesn't mean some obscure and lesser-known titles won't appear on this list. PlayStation Plus is home to hundreds of incredible titles and we want to help bring them to your attention if you are yet to play them!

To make the ranking, which is just for fun and totally subjective, we've combined our experience of playing the PS5 and PS4 games with the TrueTrophies community ratings and the wider critical reception. Because we are dealing with some PS Plus Premium games from the PS3, PS1, and PSP eras, we've just used creative license to place them on the list.

17. Killzone Liberation

Killzone Liberation has come to PS Plus Premium and sees this PSP Classic receiving a fresh lick of paint, as well as some new trophies to snap up. So far, the platinum trophy 'Liberator' has an overall completion rate of 6.10% on PSN. A spin-off of the main series from Guerrilla Games, this top-down shooter is certainly aged and a little clunky, but is a really fun callback to the PSP era.

The trophies are very easy to work through, which you can see in the high completion rate of the platinum. The bulk of the trophy list will be unlocked by naturally progressing through the story. The remainder of the list is related to easy combat trophies that you will most likely earn without trying and some challenge-related content. All in all, this is a fantastic trophy list to work through for a fabulous PSP Classic. Go on, check it out!

16. Syphon Filter 3

The Syphon Filter 3 trophies are incredibly easy, which is one reason to add it to this list alone. However, the game is also a well-crafted PS1 title from Bend Studios and is well worth your attention. Syphon Filter 3 joined PS Plus Premium in the batch of games that came to PS Plus on January 17, 2023. The entire trilogy is now ready for you to dive into and we highly recommend it if you enjoy these classic retro games and easy platinum trophies.

Talking about platinum trophies, the platinum ‘To Begin Anew’ currently sits with a completion rate of 24.50% on PSN — mightily impressive. Every trophy will be earned from completing each level of the game, except for ‘Knife to Meet You,’ which tasks you with eliminating one enemy with the knife. Pretty simple stuff, all in all!

15. Tchia

  • Developer: Awaceb
Tchia is perfect for those of you who love to explore every nook and cranny of a game and find all of the different collectibles that are littered throughout the game world. Our Tchia review revealed the fun and quirky sides to this vibrant game bringing it to life, evoking an array of emotions we didn't expect to feel while playing this cute open-world venture. Expect to laugh, be blown away by the breathtaking visuals, and be shocked by how evil the main antagonist is.

The Tchia trophy list — as mentioned earlier — is overflowing with collectible-based trophies to earn, 11 of the 22 trophies on offer to be exact. However some of the miscellaneous trophies like 'Arrr' and 'Snip Snip' are also intertwined with the collectible trophy 'Fashion Victim,' which asks you to unlock every single cosmetic item for Tchia and her boat. The platinum 'New Caledonian' currently resides with an overall completion rate of 1.90%, but we would love to see this number grow! Tchia is fun and vibrant and should keep you hooked until you earn that platinum trophy.

14. Ape Escape

  • Developer: Japan Studio
Ape Escape was one of the first PS1 classics to make its way to everyone who is subbed at the Premium tier of PS Plus, not only that it even came with a glorious platinum trophy that certainly added an extra element of fun to this cooky little game. The game follows you as you chase down apes all across a now ape-infested timeline. Honestly, it's a monkey of a good time. While the control scheme can feel a little counterintuitive, once you have the hang of it you'll be catching those cheeky little apes left, right, and center.

When it comes to the trophies, you aren't looking at anything too tedious as you attempt to wrangle up another platinum trophy, this time in the form of 'No Ape Can Escape.' The platinum currently has an overall completion rate of 8.60% which is a telling sign that this is a pretty simple one to snap up if you have seven or so hours to dedicate to this wonderful and nostalgic trip down memory lane.

13. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round will keep you on your toes as you pummel your way to victory and earn yourself another platinum trophy. You can pick from a robust roster of fighters who all come loaded with their own unique fighting styles and colorful outfits. Due to the bizarre marketing around DoA and the notorious "jiggle physics," the game gets unfairly looked past or down upon by many gamers.

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round is a stellar fighter, featuring epic battles and satisfying combos that a lot of other fighting games fail to implement so seamlessly. This alone is one of many reasons that it has landed on both this list and our best fighting games on PS5 list. So go on, what are you waiting for? Many fights await you and a shiny platinum too.

12. Control

  • Developer: Remedy Entertainment
Control throws you into the role of Jesse Faden, who goes in search of her brother and stumbles upon something her nightmares couldn't even conceive. Now, Jesse must use her newfound abilities to stop the encroaching forces of evil from taking over her world and destroying everything in its path. You'll fight an abundance of supernatural entities as you try to uncover the many secrets of the Federal Bureau of Control.

The Control trophies are very easy to mop up, with no difficulty trophies or missables in sight. Simply make your way through the story, finish up side quests, and collect a variety of collectibles and this platinum trophy will be yours before you know it! Currently, the platinum trophy 'Director of the FBC' sits with an overall completion rate of 4.10% on PSN, so it's well worth jumping on if you haven't yet!

11. Prey

  • Release date: May 5, 2017
  • Developer: Arkane Studios
Prey is an absolute beauty of a game and one that came surprisingly out of nowhere from Bethesda. Similar to GhostWire Tokyo, the game has never received the recognition it truly deserves — unlike Fallout and Skyrim. But, we promise if you decide to venture into this horror sci-fi extravaganza, you won't be disappointed.

The Prey trophies aren't going to be an easy time to work through, in fact, you'll be faced with quite an imposing challenge. The platinum trophy 'TranStar Employee of the Year' sits with a completion rate of 0.7% on PSN and this looks to be because of a variety of trophies that contradict one another and require multiple playthroughs. You've got trophies like 'Do No Harm' that ask you to not kill any humans throughout your entire playthrough, whereas 'I and It' asks you to kill every human on and around Talos I. Check out the trophy list to see all the various missable tasks as you journey through this space nightmare.

10. Detroit Become Human

Detroit Become Human comes from the same studio behind Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls and is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. One moment you will be provided feelings of joy and then the next you'll be suffocated by feelings of pure carnage. These feelings are only made worse by how sweaty your palms are as you make choices that can have dire consequences for this group of androids who just want to live their best life. The entire cast — but mainly Connor — is fascinating and you'll find yourself caring for them all as you progress through their individual stories.

The trophies will make you put in the work if you fancy snatching the platinum trophy 'Detroit Master.' Currently, the platinum trophy sits with an overall completion rate of 1.50% on PSN, and considering the game has been out for quite some time we doubt this will increase rapidly in the future. However, maybe you like a good challenge and you might be able to add this little rarity to your collection of shiny platinums? Come on, we know you're tempted!

9. Kena Bridge of Spirits

Kena Bridge of Spirits is a fantastic game filled with slick combat, fun platforming, and lots of engaging puzzles to solve. You'll be battling it out against fearsome bosses and saving the souls of those who have become lost and corrupted. You'll explore beautiful landscapes and uncover new magical abilities as you progress through the game, becoming one powerful badass along the way.

The Kena Bridge of Spirits trophies are simple to a point, you need to beat the game on the hardest difficulty, which can be made easier thanks to the recently added New Game Plus mode. However, it still won't be a walk in the park and will require a certain level of skill to overcome. So, make sure you are ready for that challenge before attempting it. The platinum trophy has an overall completion rate of 1.90% on PSN, so it is certainly manageable if you have the willpower!

8. Demon's Souls

  • Here are the Demon's Souls trophies

  • Release date: November 12, 2020
  • Developer: Bluepoint Games
Demon's Souls was one of the launch titles for the PS5 and what a game to help kick off the new-gen cycle. This title is where the Dark Souls series first sprouted roots, before spiraling into the likes of Bloodborne, Elden Ring, and Sekiro — all of which have become legendary IPs. However, thanks to PS Plus, you can now experience this original PS3 title in its best version with stunning visuals, fluid controls, and lots of carnage.

Bluepoint Games has kept Demon's Souls as punishing as ever and it will test a lot of players' patience when finding the best way to take down all those pesky bosses. However, just like any Souls game, once you do manage to defeat a challenging boss, the level of accomplishment outweighs the anger — sometimes.

Those trophies are also a worthy challenger for you to try and take down. Currently, the platinum trophy 'Slayer of Trophies' sits with an overall completion rate of 3.80% on PSN, proving a lot of players have nerves of steel to snatch this one up. 7. Wild Arms

  • Here are the Wild Arms trophies

  • Release date: December 20, 1996
  • Developer: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Wild Arms was one of the first PS1 Classic games to arrive on the revamped PlayStation Plus service. In Wild Arms players take control of Jack van Burace, Princess Cecilia, and Rudy Roughnight as they heed the call of the mythic Guardians to defend the lands from the evil Metal Demons. The cult classic game originally launched on the PS1 back in 1996 and has gone on to garner quite the following.

This fabulous version that has come to Premium houses a whole set of new benefits to take advantage of when traversing this walk down memory lane. Wild Arms now has enhanced graphics with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters to make the game feel fresh and new. Wait... there are Wild Arms trophies too? Okay, now we're in! Currently, the platinum trophy 'Ultimate Wild Arms Player' sits with an overall completion rate of 4.80% on PSN.

6. Alien Isolation

Alien Isolation throws you into a dark and nightmarish fight for survival as you try to outsmart the ferocious Xenomorphs that are taking over the space station Sevastopol. You'll play as Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Ellen Ripley, who has a reputation for kicking Alien ass across space. Amanda has come to Sevastopol in search of her long-lost mother and in the hopes of finding out exactly what happened to her.

Alien Isolation is one of the best horror games on PS5, filled to the brim with tension, fear, and near-fatal jump-scares. The trophies also help to add extra value to an already stellar title. However, don't expect an easy time — you're going to have to beat the game without dying a single time, amongst some other crazy tasks. The platinum trophy currently has an overall completion rate of 0.90% on PSN, so good luck trying to earn this one!

5. inFamous

  • Here are the inFamous trophies
  • Tier: PS Plus Premium
  • Release date: May 26, 2009
  • Developer: Sucker Punch Productions
InFamous is an absolute classic of the PS3 era, a staple if you will, and one that we included on our best PS3 games list. Now, you can dive into both this and its sequel if you have PS Plus Premium and we wholeheartedly recommend that you do! These are two classics that deserve your attention if they haven't received it already.

The inFamous trophies are a fun romp to work through, that is going to require a couple of full playthroughs and a lot of scavenging to get every Shard in the game. The 'inFamous Platinum Trophy' currently sits at 1.9% on PSN and is guarded by five trophies in particular 'Good Finish,' 'Evil Finish,' 'Hard Finish,' 'Rockhound,' and 'Stunt Master.' You'll want to familiarise yourself with these trophies so you know what kind of grind you are in for. But, regardless, you'll have an incredible time with this one, and is well worth the time investment!

4. Death Stranding Director's Cut

Death Stranding Director's Cut is a game that receives a lot of praise and love, despite its strange and confusing premise. The gameplay, which sees you play as a loyal and diligent delivery man, is unusual, to say the least. However, we think that's why so many of you have been hooked by the game's premise. That was certainly the case for Editor Kes, who loved the game immensely but hated how, in his own words, "tedious, boring, bad, long, and irritating" the platinum trophy was to earn.

If you look at the Death Stranding trophies a little more closely, you will see that the platinum trophy 'Greatest of Great Deliverers,' only has a completion rate of 1.80% over on PSN. Honestly, that's not that high for a game that is as big and as popular as this Hideo Kojima creation. 'Growth of Legend,' 'Trail-Blazer,' and 'Master Builder' appear to be the three trophies causing the most trouble when going for the platinum trophy. If you wish to attempt this one, we wish you all the luck in the world!

3. Assassin's Creed II

Assassin's Creed II is heralded as one of the best entries in the entire franchise and we have to concur — even if we don't think it's the best Assassin's Creed game. Assassin's Creed II really stepped it up from its predecessor — which wasn't a bad game — adding dual assassin blades, smoother parkouring, and a charming main character that you can't help but fall in love with. Assassin's Creed II still stands strong all these years later, even with the likes of Black Flag and Origins being huge standouts for the series!

The Assassin's Creed II trophies aren't all that difficult, there are a couple of missable trophies you'll need to keep an eye on, but aside from those, it should be smooth sailing. The only trophy that may be a pain is the one that is rewarded for collecting every feather in the game. However, it seems many people didn't think it was too boring, as the platinum trophy currently sits with an overall completion rate of 5.90% on PSN.

2. Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West is the exceptional sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, one of PlayStation Studios' most iconic releases. Editor Kes also relished in the glorious open world in his Horizon Forbidden West review and now, you can as well.

Following Aloy after the events of Zero Dawn, a deadly red strain of plant is infecting the known world. So, our protagonist voyages West all by her lonesome to find a solution and save the land. However, some visitors make that task much more complex as the Horizon series broadens its... horizons. Aren't we funny?

The Horizon Forbidden West trophies aren't anything too difficult to work through, the main difficulty will come from the amount of time you spend exploring, collecting, and finishing up side missions. All in all, it's a very simple and standard trophy list. The platinum trophy 'All Trophies Obtained' currently sits with an overall completion rate of 6.60% on PSN, which isn't too shabby at all.

1. Ghost of Tsushima

There is no denying that Ghost of Tsushima is one of the greatest gaming experiences in recent years. Netting a variety of awards and being praised by gamers all over the world. In this action-adventure epic, you take on the role of Jin Sakai, a samurai on a quest to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. Sakai quickly realizes that the traditions of a samurai alone won't be enough to win this fight, he will have to move beyond his samurai roots and learn the way of the ghost.

The trophies for Ghost of Tsushima are surprisingly simple, with the platinum trophy 'Living Legend' netting a completion rate of 8.70% on PSN. For anyone wanting a fantastic story-driven adventure with breathtaking visuals, engaging combat mechanics, and an easy platinum to boot — look no further than Ghost of Tsushima.
