PS Plus users in EU plagued with more upgrade issues

By Sean Lawson,

A nasty bug is currently plaguing the new PS Plus revamp here in the EU, affecting players that are looking to upgrade from PS Plus Essential to either PS Plus Extra or Premium. So, you may want to hold off upgrading for now.

The launch of the new PS Plus revamp hasn't been without its issues around the world and the EU is looking to be no exception. Already PS Plus subscribers in the EU are struggling to access PS1 Classics like Tekken 2 even though they should be entitled to download the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game — unfortunately, they are still locked behind a subscription paywall. Yet, this isn't the only problem affecting PS Plus subscribers in the EU, as a number of users have reported issues accessing the new service even in cases where they have been charged for the upgrade.

PS Plus users are not gaining the benefits of upgrading to Premium and Extra

PS PlusPS Plus issues plague EU territories

Users on Twitter have reported that when they have paid to upgrade to either PS Plus Premium or PS Plus Extra, they have received an error and are unable to upgrade. However, the users then report that they have been charged by Sony for the upgrade, but are stranded without receiving any of the perks that they are entitled to. Instead, their account remains on the PS Plus Essential tier and, as of right now, no fix from Sony has been issued.

One unfortunate user has attempted to upgrade on four separate occasions, receiving an error message each time they have tried to purchase one of the new tiers. What they discovered a little too late is that they had actually been charged for each and every attempt they had made — and you guessed it — they are stuck without any of the perks.

The issue seems to be rife for EU players who are trying to gain access to the new and improved PS Plus service. With a plethora of classic titles that PS Plus members can gain access to on top of a bucket load of other perks, it is no surprise so many people are jumping at the opportunity to test the waters and see if PS Plus Premium or Extra is worth it for them. A lot of people appear to be getting a bad first impression, suggesting a few people might deter a lot of people from upgrading.

I, for one, was very excited to check out PS Plus Premium and jump into some of the PS1 Classics that I never got to play when I was younger. But seeing all these PlayStation users being charged and not being able to reap the benefits from the service is stopping me from upgrading at the moment. Once a fix has been confirmed by Sony and everything is working as it should be, then I will take the plunge and see all of what this new PS Plus revamp has to offer.

What do you guys make of this whole ordeal? Have any of you upgraded and had this issue arise? Let me know in the comments below!
