Overwatch 2 beta is live on PS4 and PS5 — now everyone can access it

By Lee Brady,

Overwatch 2's second beta kicked off for select players June 28th, and now its been announced that registered players who haven't received access can join the beta and play as new hero Junker Queen too.

Update:
The second beta for Overwatch 2 has been in full swing for a number of weeks now, letting players check out the latest hero Junker Queen and a whole slew of excellent changes until 18th July, 2022. Sadly, that means a great deal of players haven't yet had the opportunity to sink their teeth into the newly free-to-play game — until now, at least.

The Overwatch development team announced on its blog that players who had registered for the beta but had yet to receive access should see access roll out through 15th July, 2022. That will give players at least three days to enjoy the new game before its official early access launch on October 4th, 2022. It's still all a little confusing, with many players still unclear on what Overwatch 2 actually is (it's not a sequel, for example), but at least know they can find out first hand on PS5 and PS4 this week.

Hopefully players will be able to access the game now without any hassle — just make sure you were already registered to join the beta, and that you've linked your PlayStation account to your battle.net account. Are you excited to check out the new game? Let us know in the comments below!

Original Story:
The Junker Queen was first officially introduced in the release date reveal trailer for Overwatch 2, where we also learned the game had shifted to a free-to-play model and would be entering early access October 4th, 2022. As it turns out, eager fans will have a chance to play as the new tank hero as early as June 28th, when the game’s second beta begins.

If you haven’t already, sign up to battle.net

To access any of the betas, and most likely Overwatch 2 across all consoles and PC, players are going to need an account with Blizzard at battle.net. Link your battle.net account to your Youtube and Twitch accounts

If this second beta is anything like the first, Blizzard will be giving away Overwatch 2 beta access either on Youtube by watching the Overwatch League or on Twitch by watching affiliated streamers. Regardless, do yourself a favour ahead of time and link your streaming account to your battle.net account.

In the settings on either website, you will have to option to link your account with a list of third-party apps and accounts, one of which will be battle.net. Once connected, you should be eligible for any Overwatch 2 beta drops, should they be announced.

Keep an eye on the Overwatch developers’ blog

If you miss the reveal event, check out the Overwatch developer's blog, as all important news will have been posted there. Details on how to sign-up for the beta are due to drop after the event today, so keep an eye out for a news post discussing it. If beta access is due to be granted by streaming Overwatch 2 again, you will find out dates, times, and eligible streamers at the blog.

For guaranteed access, you'll need the Watchpoint pack

We've learned from the PlayStation Blog that if you want to gain guaranteed access to the Overwatch 2 beta on the PlayStation Store. The pack comes with the first battle pass, new skins, an Overwatch 2 profile icon, in-game currency for cosmetics, and for those who don't have a copy yet, a download for Overwatch: Legendary Edition.

All skins will be accessible day one in Overwatch, so players can enjoy some of the benefits of the purchase well before the sequel launches. It's not confirmed yet whether this is the only surefire way to access the beta, but if there are any other options, we'll make sure to update this article to keep you up to date.

With that, you should be all set to play as Junker Queen when June 28th comes around. We’ll update this story with new information if we learn anything between now and the beta's launch, just to make certain you don’t miss your chance to also play as new hero Sojourn, try out the new 5v5 format, and test the new character reworks.

Stay tuned to this story and the rest of TrueTrophies for more updates on the impending Overwatch 2! Are you excited? Look, we’re friends here; I’m not above telling you the latest reveal trailer made me a little emotional.
