The Witcher 4 creators share development update

The new, untitled Witcher game is just out of the 'research' phase. CD Projekt confirmed The Witcher 4, as it is being dubbed for now, is now entering pre-production under developer CD Projekt Red.

The update for CD Projekt on its all-new Witcher game came via a news post. CD Projekt's Piotr Nielubowicz highlighted the sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in a developer update video.

What is happening with The Witcher 4?

"We have recently wrapped up the research phase, which means the project has now progressed to pre-production, and we've begun to capitalize development expenses related to this new game," stated Nielubowicz.

CEO Adam Kicinski also spoke in the post, saying: "We are very eager to revisit the universe which has shaped our history to such an extent."

However, just because development is underway on The Witcher 4, that doesn't mean we'll see it any time soon. The team dropped its proprietary REDengine in favour of using Unreal Engine 5, which will probably cause a few teething issues. That being said, the developer did state that it would "closely collaborate with Epic Games' developers" to ensure open-world experiences are functional and easy to make on UE5.

Basically, The Witcher 4 is at the stage where Geralt knows the recipe he needs for his potion; now, he has to get the ingredients before he can start full production on making it. Great metaphor, Kes. Geat work. Anyway, what do you think of the news? Looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments!
