Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is ready to dominate October

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

Activision Blizzard has announced the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 release date. The follow up to 2019's Modern Warfare will hope to reset the stagnancy the FPS series recently experienced with Cold War and Vanguard.

You might remember that Modern Warfare (2019) — a reboot of the other Modern Warfare (2007) — was a big deal for Activision Blizzard. Well, this little indie game is getting a sequel, inventively called Modern Warfare II (2022) after its precursor... Modern Warfare 2 (2009).
Modern Warfare's sequel was announced way back in February, but we've now got confirmation of an October release date for Modern Warfare 2. Well, now we have a release date.

When will the new Modern Warfare release?

Modern Warfare 2 is going to launch on October 28th. The Modern Warfare sequel has been teased a lot alongside a return to Warzone with a full reboot of the battle-royale half of the game. In terms of actual gameplay, though, Activision is keeping its weapons locked and loaded, only gracing us with the news that this will use a new engine.

Thus far, Activision has only been playing for squad morale, saying about Modern Warfare 2: It will be "the most advanced experience in franchise history." In turn, "the new free-to-play Warzone experience, which is built from the ground-up alongside the premium game, features groundbreaking innovations to be revealed later this year."

You know what isn't coming next year, though? Call of Duty. Apparently, Activision is set to delay the game until 2024. So, Modern Warfare 2 on October 28th it is! We have to say, Modern Warfare was a really solid shooter and certainly the best CoD in recent years. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments!
