Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown pushed back, PS4 version cancelled

By Sean Carey,

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has been delayed to 2023, and Nacon and TT Racing have also announced that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the open-world racing game have been cancelled.

In a post over on Steam, the Solar Crown team provided an update on the current state of the game and detailed the reasons for the delay and cancellation.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown cancelled on PS4

The Solar Crown team say they need more time to make Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown "the most polished gaming experience in the franchise." The game was down for a 2022 release, but now we can expect it to scream off the starting line in 2023. The extra development time will be used to optimise the game and test it out via closed beta. More on these closed betas will be shared soon.

Sadly, the Solar Crown team has also announced that previous-gen versions of the game have been cancelled, so if you want to play the new game on a PlayStation console when it does eventually release, you're going to need a PS5. "With the aim of making the most of the technology in the latest consoles and maximising the overall quality of the game, Nacon has decided to no longer develop Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One," the post reads.

How do you feel about the delay? Are you happy to see more developers leave behind the previous generation of consoles? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
