PlayStation Gameplay Chart: FIFA wins another championship

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

The top of the list is dominated by the likes of FIFA 22, Elden Ring, and Fortnite across PS4 and PS5. Meanwhile, PlayStation Plus games have slid away with a huge drop-off for Tribes of Midgard and Curse of the Dead Gods.

FIFA 22 has scored another screamer in this week's derby match against Elden Ring and the other PS Plus games for May 2022. Here is the top 40 PlayStation Gameplay Chart for the week ending May 15th, 2022.

FIFA 22 is top of the table looking at its second straight championship title. That being said, player attendance in the stadium was slightly less than last week and it dropped player counts by 7.5%. The ratio of PS4 to PS5 players is currently at 6:5 (to the nearest round decimal) in favour of last-gen, however, this isn't indicative of the general trend across games at the moment. EA refuses to allow cross-play between generations, so players tend to play last-gen versions to they can play with friends. FIFA sits above Elden Ring in terms of player count by almost 50%, making this the first time FromSoftware's mega-hit has been so roundly beaten by any opposition.

While both Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon Forbidden West have risen to eighth and ninth, every game in this region has risen thanks to the decline of PS Plus game Tribes of Midgard. It drops from seventh to 13th, with a corresponding 40% decrease in popularity. Curse of the Dead Gods, likewise, has dropped from 11th to 21st — a heavy ten-place blow with a loss of 45% of players. In both cases, it isn't surprising — but we were hoping the loss wouldn't be so large for Curse of the Dead Gods as it appeared to have 'cult PS Plus game' vibes going for it.

There has been a huge drop of those of you taking a bite out of the Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt. It has to settle for seven places lower than last week's 18th-place finish, as it comes in at 25th. At the bottom of the chart, we have three returning games. At 38th is The Division 2, followed by Warframe in 39th, then Mortal Kombat 11 at the foot of the tower. All three occasionally peep into the chart individually, so it is nice to see them all come up at once.

What do you think of the chart this week? Any lingering questions? Let us know in the comments below, and we will see you there!
