Troubled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake changes developer

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is still on the way, according to publisher Ubisoft, but along the voyage of recreation, it will be changing developers to Ubisoft Montréal.

After a long period of silence, Ubisoft announced on Twitter that development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been moved from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai. Ubisoft Montréal — "the very birthplace of the epic Sands of Time trilogy" — is now the lead developer.

As part of a short statement, Ubisoft says the Canadian team will "now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic when it's ready."

What happened to the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake?

Leaks revealed very early screenshots before the Ubisoft announced The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake in September 2020 with an apparent January 2021 release window (TrueAchievements links). As ever, the game was delayed to March 2021 before an indefinite delay. At the time the developer said that it required more time to "deliver a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original."

Presently, Ubisoft still has not announced any timeframe for the new release, so keep that magic sand handy. In the meantime, Ubisoft Montréal will "regroup on the scope of the game."
