Update:
A response was given to our sister site TrueAchievements. The servers for many of these PS3 games are back up, as well as some we didn't yet know about. Here is the statement:
“Some of our games (Anno 2070, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 3, Silent Hunter 5, and Splinter Cell Blacklist) were taken offline for a short maintenance and services have been restored. We will provide advance notice before shutting down any online services for our games and have updated our support article to reflect this.”
The Assassin's Creed Revelations trophies also appears to be available again as multiplayer was restored, despite not being mentioned in the press release. Will you be playing again? Let us know in the comments.
Original Story:
Four Assassin's Creed games have had their servers assassinated on PS3 alongside several other games. Done without warning, this means that the trophies for online modes in these games have been discontinued. Over on TA, there were reports that Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag servers were down on Xbox 360 and PS3, even though it didn't appear on the list of games closed. It now appears that it is working.
For a few weeks, we have been picking up reports from our sister sites' forums that PS3-era games from Ubisoft have had connection issues. Mostly it was to do with Uplay accounts and online servers, sending many to Ubisoft support who then confirmed that these games were indeed about to "requiescat in pace." While we have reached out for further clarification, Ubisoft Support appears to have beaten us to the chase when responding about the Assassin's Creed closures:
Over on Ubisoft's online services status page, a stealth update added PS3 games affected by server closures with no other announcement. There have been additions beyond the Assassin's Creed series, too. Here is the full list, featuring all the games we know are affected. Just click the game name for the trophy list which should have the affected trophies listed.
So, we are looking at four shut Assassin's Creed games here — with poor old Revelations having 20 trophies discontinued thanks to the sunsetting of its amazing multiplayer. In addition to these games, there have been closures for other games — but they happened quite some time ago so we have kept them separate from the rest. This includes Tom Clancy's EndWar and The Smurfs 2.
Ubisoft is currently getting back to us on this, so if you want to raise a ticket you can head to Ubisoft's contact page to ask about the servers in your best business voice. With enough frustration, maybe the power of the people can turn the tide? At least for long enough that we could grab our delicious little trophies.
Let us know what you think, TT community! Is this an issue for you? Have you got these games on your backlog? Give a comment!
