GTA 5 on PS5 has the Uncharted graphics modes

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
While we all beg for no more Grand Theft Auto Online trophies, Rockstar has happily detailed all of the details of the PS5 version of the game. We will be getting plenty of graphics modes, faster loading, and more.

GTA Online

Rockstar has stated on its website and on the PlayStation Blog that the PS5 version of GTA 5, releasing March 15th, is going to be equipped with three graphics modes that will be familiar to Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves players.

The first is Fidelity Mode, which is offering the "highest visual quality" at 30fps. On PS5, we are getting native 4K resolution with ray tracing. The Performance Mode targets 60fps with an upscaled resolution of 4K. The final mode is the cool little Performance RT mode. Rockstar says this mode will be straddling the line with a "hybrid of the Fidelity and Performance modes supporting upscaled 4K resolution with ray tracing enabled and targeting 60fps."

Perhaps the most exciting thing is that there will be "across-the-board improvements." This includes faster loading times, more population and traffic, higher vegetation density, better lighting across shadows and water reflections, and "improved anti-aliasing, motion-blur, highly detailed new explosions, fire, and much more." Unfortunately, Rockstar hasn't given us any clue of whether there will be any more Grand Theft Auto V trophies to unlock.

GTA Online will also be available as a standalone title for the first time on March 15th. Rockstar says you can expect "an assortment of new quality-of-life improvements, including a newly designed introduction and tutorial for new players, a new front-end Main Menu that allows you to jump directly into Freemode, Heists, Races, Adversary Modes, the latest featured weekly event content, and more." There will also be a 'Career Builder' feature. It will give new players (or those who wish to start from scratch) "an introductory leg up" to the game. That means, on top of many freebies, $4 million GTA bucks to purchase properties, vehicles, and weapons.

Take-Two has 62 games in development

Previous PS4 players can swap over their GTA 5 story mode progress and GTA Online character progress to the PS5 version "or across console platforms, with a one-time migration for each." Rockstar says you can get ahead in the GTA 5 story mode by uploading your save state to the Rockstar Games Social Club. We would recommend having a peek at the post from Rockstar for further details.

In short, on March 15th you can migrate your GTA Online character progress to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S "upon loading up the game on either of these new consoles" if you have a Rockstar Account. The migration includes characters, GTA$, progression, stats, vehicles, properties, weapons, clothing, and player-created jobs. The GTA dollars you have bought can only transfer between console families — PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S.

The GTA pairing will release on PS5 on March 15th. Let us know if you want a GTA Club for TT where we can ride around on scooters wearing no shoes together. Rebel life. Will you be giving this a go? Let us know in the comments!
