EA removes Russian teams from FIFA 22 and NHL 22

By Sean Carey,
EA has announced it will remove all Russian football teams from FIFA 22 as well as Russian and Belarusian teams from NHL 22.

"EA stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine," a statement from EA posted on Twitter reads. The publisher then goes on to say it has "initiated processes" to remove the Russian national team and "all Russian clubs" from FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile, and FIFA Online.

This move follows announcements from real-life footballing bodies FIFA and UEFA, who have both banned Russian clubs, including the Russian national team, from competing in their competitions.

As for NHL 22, EA says that following the International Ice Hockey Federation's suspension of all Russian and Belarusian clubs from the IIHF's competitions, it will be removing these teams from NHL 22 "within the coming weeks."

There has been an outpouring of support from the games industry following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Various games companies have donated large sums of money or held fundraisers for humanitarian charities in the country. However, Ukraine's deputy prime minister has called on the likes of PlayStation, Xbox and other gaming companies to do more.
