PlayStation VR2 release set for Q1 2023 — report

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
PlayStation VR2 could now be set for a Q1 2023 release after a new rumour claims that the virtual reality headset's release window has slipped from late 2022.

PSVR Without Parole has made the release date claim. The channel has been right about numerous PlayStation VR related leaks, but since this is unconfirmed information don't just take it as fact. Initially, they mention that there is a necessity for PlayStation 5 consoles to be able to be purchased without shortages before the accompanying headset is released as the pair work in tandem.

That suggests why there is a delay on the headset generally, but PSVR Without Parole into further details. "When is PS VR2 scheduled to release? Well, the answer I'm hearing from multiple sources now is Q1 2023." That would mean before March 31st next year, which marks the end of the Q1 period.

The channel goes on to speculate that "this explains why Sony has been relatively quiet about PlayStation VR 2. Why they are drip-feeding us the information here and there. Why almost everything they have said so far has been relegated to the PlayStation Blog. And, most importantly, why we haven't received a State of Play showcasing launch games, price, preorder details, or whatever. It being a year off means that Sony isn't ready to start building the hype yet."

While certainly disappointing, it could have hidden benefits like giving studios the time to create a stronger launch lineup and the chance for the manufacturer to make more devices. As ever with things in this industry, the state of the supply chain binds all hands. What do you think of this date? Tell us what you think in the comments!
