Until Dawn developers working on unannounced, unexpected game

Supermassive Games, the team behind PS4's interactive horror adventure Until Dawn, is working on a new game that is unrelated to its Dark Pictures Anthology.

The team has a European Union Intellectual Property Office listing for a game called "The Quarry." The trademark makes no mention of the Dark Pictures Anthology, so it appears that Supermassive is working on something entirely new with The Quarry. VGC has stated that its sources suggested that the game will be "published by 2K. A release is planned for later this year, they said." Without any official word from 2K, this should be treated as merely a rumour to be taken with your pinch of salt.

This follows the news from VGC that there are five games in The Dark Pictures anthology yet to come: Directive 8020, The Craven Man, Intercession, Winterfold, and O Death. All of those titles are unannounced and were only found through trademark listings for the logos, and all will fall under a publishing partnership with Bandai Namco.

Supermassive has done very well for itself since life with Sony. Many thought that after the release of Until Dawn exclusively for PlayStation 4, Sony would look to acquire the team for PlayStation Studios because of how much leeway Supermassive were given during the protracted development cycle. Indeed, the potential of that acquisition was increased when Supermassive also made VR Until Dawn spin-off Rush of Blood. Sony never made the move, though, and Supermassive is now making successful games with big publishers like Bandai Namco and, allegedly, 2K in order to keep bringing in the money.

Well, this has made us remember that we really need to grab the last of the Until Dawn trophies. Speaking of, we have the Dark Pictures Anthology to complete as well, with the Man of Medan trophies, the Little Hope trophies, and The House of Ashes trophies all sitting at around 30-hour completion times. Let us know how you feel about the team, and if you are interested in a new game unrelated to The Dark Pictures Anthology.
