PlayStation Gameplay Chart: PlayStation Plus games beaten by Dying Light 2

The PlayStation Plus games for February 2022 have entered the chart, but have been beaten out by the newly-released Dying Light 2. Here is the top 40 PlayStation Gameplay Chart for the week ending February 6th, 2022.

Starting out at the top, as always, let's have a look at just how well Dying Light 2 has done on release. The player count is very close in proximity to FIFA 22 — within around 7% of tracked accounts playing — despite the football title currently running a huge Future Stars promo for its ever-popular Ultimate Team mode. Techland's open-world zombie game, though, has only two-thirds of the player count of Fortnite up top, which is just dominating at the moment. It outmatched GTA V by 10%, too. That makes Dying Light 2 an astonishing success in its first week, helped along by the terrific reviews. Staff writer Tom over on TA wrote a review in which he said that "Dying Light 2: Stay Human is more than a sequel — it’s an evolution that keeps everything that is integral to the franchise intact, but builds on it with enough engaging content that it’s incredibly hard to stop playing."

The PlayStation Plus games for February have entered the chart, with one proving to be a cut about the rest in terms of raw numbers. EA Sports UFC 4 roundhouse-kicks Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep off the cage and then rolls a D20, or whatever happens in these two games. Would a kick to Tiny Tina be child abuse? Is she a child? Anyway, UFC 4 is sixth, three places above Tiny Tina in ninth. The player gap is tremendous, though. UFC 4 has pulled in around 25% more players than Dragon Keep since becoming a Plus game. We would bank on this being because it is probably appealing to the mass market much more so than the D&D-themed Borderlands spin-off.

The final game is the PS5 version Planet Coaster, lounging down in the fifteenth. Let's start by noting that Planet Coaster's player count is only PS5 gamers, meaning the number is perhaps a bit more impressive than one might think initially. With a lower install base, it has racked up enough gamers to compete with free-to-play Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, which was oh-so-successful last week in seventh place. Planet Coaster has also outclassed Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, which we gave 10/10 in our review, but note that it is a genuinely marginal difference in player count between the two games. That being said, to have Planet Coaster, a niche theme park management game, up and amongst a free-to-play title with immense IP popularity and a PlayStation exclusive is extremely impressive.

The rest of this list is quite interesting, too. We would like to point out that Call of Duty: Vanguard isn't even close to making it into the top ten in terms of player count, leaving it in thirteenth. Its rival FPS, Battlefield 2042, has obviously been relegated down to 31st, down from 25th last week. That really must be a hammer blow to EA and DICE, but not entirely undeserved given the current state of the game from what I hear. Rainbow Six Extraction isn't exactly doing numbers, either. It has moved upwards, a bigger bump than you would think given that there are four new entries above it, but 34th is hardly the place where a two-week-old Tom Clancy title should be. A resurgence from Gran Turismo Sport into 37th does give us a hint of the hype levels for GT7, though.

Aside from that, and the fact that both Dirt 5 and Deep Rock Galactic are still admirably holding on from January's PlayStation Plus games, we thank that is all the Gameplay Chart you need for this week!
