PlayStation Gameplay Chart: Uncharted enters the list, Yu-Gi-Oh! places high

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection has made a splash over this weekend, while free-to-play Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel continues a successful streak. Here is the top 40 PlayStation Gameplay Chart for the week ending January 30th, 2022.

The week doesn't look that interesting when you see that the top seven games — containing Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Vanguard, FIFA, GTA V, Apex Legends, and Rocket League — are as stagnant as a snail in mud. However, it is that number seven spot that you should look out for. Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has retained its seventh place from last week, but also kept hold of its player count with only a marginal loss. That sits it in the close bundle of player counts from fifth to eleventh (Destiny 2) positions. To get amongst these games and then maintain position is impressive and marks the first major success for a while for Konami.

We have talked a lot about PlayStation Plus' January games, but it bears repeating that both Deep Rock Galactic (12th down two) and Dirt 5 (13th down one) have also been the best performing Plus titles since Battlefield 5 was included way back when. The pair have now been in the top places for the whole month, with similar player counts. Let's see what happens to them when February's games go live tomorrow!

Just behind them is the new release of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PS5 in 14th. It has only had the weekend to perform, so it reaching these high-echelon positions over three days is probably the mark of more to come next week. You can read our praise-heavy review if you fancy, where Kes said it "took me to utopia... again. Twice. It is the kind of gaming treasure with limitless worth — two experiences that make you want to endlessly journey through the world hunting treasures and exploring crumbling ruins."

Finally, let's chat about the triplet of first-time chart entrants at the bottom. Dying Light is in 34th as players prepare for the imminent release of Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Now, in terms of raw player count, it is competing with all the games up until 32nd, which is It Take Two. That is not bad for a bit of interest in a pre-release environment. However, these are probably one-time numbers, so we might see it slip next week. A similar resurgence has happened for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which finds itself in 38th for the first time since we started running these charts. Again, it seems like all the Uncharted on PS5 talk has got PS4 players jealous, or alternately people are trying to get in on the multiplayer which isn't included in the remaster.

Finally, Rainbow Six: Extraction has entered at 37th. However, that is not an ideal place for the FPS featuring aliens and tactical gameplay. Luke enjoyed it over on TrueAchievements, saying that "as much as I enjoy the moment-to-moment gameplay of Rainbow Six Extraction and have had a blast with it both solo and in co-op, it's impossible to overlook the glaring balance issues and lack of any kind of appealing endgame it has at the moment."
