PlayStation-associated Deviation Games expands into Canada before full-production of game

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
Deviation Games is working in association with Sony and PlayStation on its first game for PS5 that will "deviate away from the normal, the boring, the humdrum." The team has already expanded by opening a new studio in Canada.

A LinkedIn post by Deviation was unearthed by ResetEra (thanks, PushSquare). Deviation was announced as a studio by PlayStation and has started development on a PS5 game. Before releasing this unannounced title though, the studio has already expanded.

"Deviation Games is thrilled to announce Deviation Games Canada!" reads the LinkedIn announcement. "We’ve been working on this initiative for several months now (and keeping it super quiet BTW), so it’s really exciting to finally share this incredible news with all of you!! We hope you will join us in celebrating this amazing milestone! And it goes without saying, we are hiring! So, if you're in Canada and you’re interested in exploring any of the opportunities on our website please reach out! Or if you would simply like to learn more, please message any of our team members. We would love to have a conversation and tell you more about all the exciting things going on at Deviation Games!"

The team is populated with ex-Call of Duty alumni and has been widely recognised to have a lot of funding behind it other than that of Sony. Expanding with a new studio in Canada is proof enough of that, although it is worth noting that you get plenty of tax breaks operating out of there so it could just be an enticing opportunity that is worth the risk. It is clear that the team is confident in what it is doing, even if we have little concrete information about the project other than it is about to come out of pre-production.

A few Sony fanboys are already suggesting that the team gets snapped up after you know what happened last week. While we think the talent there is exciting and the vision of producing something truly different is admirable, it might be worth waiting to see what the team can actually make first. Or, at least, wait until the team starts making and showing the actual game.

Let us know what you think of this news. Too much too soon for Deviation? Or is this an act of confidence? Let us know in the comments below!
