Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 819,000 active PlayStation accounts. Chart information is copyright TrueGaming Network.
Obviously, Fortnite, FIFA 22, GTA V, and Call of Duty: Warzone dominate the top of the chart. It is notable, however, that Vanguard has lost its grip on the top five and has now dropped into seventh. The race from fifth to ninth is a close one, the difference between the bottom game (Rocket League) and our new number five — Deep Rock Galactic — player counts is only 10% of the PlayStation Plus titles.

Speaking of the service, while we thought Deep Rock Galactic would improve this week thanks to the word of mouth and co-op factors, we didn't think that it would overtake Dirt 5 or rise this high. While player counts are down generally on last week as the Christmas habits wear off, Dirt 5 has actually retained its count. In fact, the only reason it has dropped is that those dwarven miners have had a massive 20% increase in players. This isn't one of the biggest week-to-week bounces we have ever seen, but it is certainly a massive one for a PS Plus game.

The final PS Plus game is Persona 5 Strikers in 16th, which has had a bit of a torrid time. In fairness, it has dropped only three places on the chart, but those three places were worth nearly a third of players from last week. It keeps good company in the teens, with the Ubisoft everlasting gobstoppers of Siege in 15th, Far Cry 6 in 17th, and Valhalla in 18th. Just above those games is also the evergreen Marvel's Spider-Man, which is somehow still doing bits in 13th. It is worth noting once again, that both Spider-Man and Battlefield 2042 have actually dropped players since last week as player counts have declined.

The big re-entry into the chart this week is PUBG: Battlegrounds, which has just gone free-to-play. The move sees the game debut in its new format at 30th on the list. That is a solid position if you can cling onto it, but the games around these parts can be vapid. Just look at Among Us careening down the rankings into 37th, down five spots. Instead, it is worth a look next week to see if it can pull a Deep Rock Galactic and use the worth of mouth to propel it up the list. Horizon Zero Dawn has climbed the Tallneck of Forbidden West hype around these parts, as it has got a six-place boost into 27th.

Big week! What do you think of this information? Anything interesting in here? Let us know in the comments what you have spotted and we will see you there!
