Though the PlayStation 5 is in the wild, it is notoriously tricky to come by due to stock shortages. To combat this, it has been claimed that Sony has extended the production of PS4's into 2022.

Bloomberg reports that Sony had shifted its 2022 production plans to cope with the shortage in components for the PS5. Originally, the article claims, assembly partners making the console were told that PS4 production was to stop in 2021. Now it seems that one million PS4s will be made in 2022 to help offset the manufacture of PS5s with more advanced chipsets and silicon.

Supposedly, this will have the added benefit of helping Sony negotiate better deals with its manufacturing partners as production increases. When reached out to, a Sony spokesperson confirmed the news to Bloomberg: "It is one of the best-selling consoles ever and there is always crossover between generations." the PS4 has sold a whopping 116 million units to date, making it the fourth best selling console of all time.

What do you think of the news? Is this smart business from Sony? Do you think that the company can sell 1 million PS4's at this point in time? Let us know in the comments!
