PlayStation teases Tournaments feature for next PS5 firmware update

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
Sony's presence at CES 2022 might have been focused on revealing the specs for PlayStation VR2, but a major PS5 feature was revealed to be coming with a future update: Tournaments.

PS5 has had some major upgrades through firmware, like a trophy overhaul and additional SSD support, so seeing PlayStation Tournaments added to the list seems sensible. Sony recently bought the rights to the EVO esports fighting tournament, so there is a vested interest in making PlayStation a streamlined place to set up battles with your friends. No details as of yet, but we will keep you abreast of what happens down the road.

Of course, this was also a PS4 feature under the old Communities tab before it was shut down. Would you like to see Tournaments return for PS5? What other firmware changes would you make? Let us know in the comments below!

Hey, I'm Kes! I'm a Staff Writer, and I've been here since 2021. What do I like? The Outer Wilds is top notch. The Witcher 3 blew my mind over the course of five years completing it. I want Burnout back — I really miss crunching mechanical wonders into walls to the sound of Guns N' Roses. Cool, now we are acquainted, I'll see you around.
