Forspoken performance details drop after gameplay removed

Forspoken, the Square Enix RPG coming next year, dropped some gameplay through IGN yesterday that was then swiftly removed. However, new details have emerged today that suggests that the game will solve a few of the issues spotted in the deleted footage.

First reported by UnGeek, Forspoken will have three gameplay modes in order to optimise performance to your needs. As described by creative producer Raio Mitsuno, Performance Mode will have Forspoken running at 1440p resolution at 60FPS. Graphics Mode will feature gameplay at 4K resolution, but with a lower 30FPS. Finally, it is uncertain how Ray Tracing Mode will play, but it will obviously run at a lower resolution, possibly 1080p, and at a lower frame rate, possibly 30fps.

This might help to resolve some of the issues seen in gameplay released by IGN yesterday that was swiftly removed. In it, we got a look at the look of the fantasy world of Forspoken, the lead character, combat, traversal, and the menus. While some of it looked impressive, like the particle effects, it did seem to be running poorly, with some stuttering, low framerates, and a bit of empty world syndrome. We can imagine that a Performance Mode would help solve some of those issues.

Game director Takeshi Aramaki shared with UnGeek that Forspoken uses those glorious adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. “We really have included a lot of unique PlayStation 5 hardware features when we were developing this game,” says the director. "For example, using the adaptive triggers, we added tactile feedback when you’re using the different types of magic. We’ve got lots of different magic spells you can use in the game, and the planners and designers sat down and worked out how to differentiate the feedback you get from the controller for each of the magic spells.”

Forspoken releases on May 24th, 2022 exclusively for PS5 and on PC. Have you been impressed so far? What did you think about the gameplay before it was removed? Let us know in the comments!
