BBC iPlayer app finally drops on PS5 with Ultra HD support

PlayStation 5 is finally getting the BBC iPlayer app, which will support Ultra HD for some select shows. That means you won't have to go back to your PS4, or literally any other device, to catch up with Match of the Day or Taboo.

It has taken a year, but BBC has announced that the iPlayer app is on PS5 with Ultra HD support for selected programming. To get a hold of it, head to that Media tab by pressing R1 on the Home page, select the app from 'All Apps,' and start downloading it. In fairness to the one year delay, this is the first current-gen native version of the app, with the PS4 version locked on the older console and the Xbox One version used for the Xbox Series X|S.

BBC iPlayer has some stunners. There is Match of the Day for the football fans, sometimes Taboo pops up with Tom Hardy (gorgeous man) and a wonderful score by Max Richter, The Mating Game narrated by David Attenborough, and there is currently the movie Vice by Adam McKay available — one of the most compelling docu-satire directors working today.

Will you be watching some iPlayer tonight? Do you even watch media content on your PS5? We are still a little surprised at how rough the Disney+ app is on console. Let us know what you think in the comments!
