EA to develop new Fight Night game after UFC 5 — report

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
EA's once-popular Fight Night boxing game series is reportedly set for a comeback after a new project was allegedly greenlit and entered early development.

Fight Night Round 4

Tom Henderson, writing for VGC, reported the news with his ever-reliable insider knowledge. Henderson states that sources with an understanding of EA's plans have stated that an all-new Fight Night game, codenamed 'Moneyball,' is in the very early stages of development. However, because the ever lucrative EA Sports UFC 5 is being prioritised by EA Canada for 2022, it seems a new Fight Night game is "likely several years from release."

VGC also reports seeing a studio-wide email. In it, EA Canada supposedly informed its developers that the Fight Night project is being paused. This is to allow all senior developers to work on the upcoming UFC 5 so that there wasn't a split between the 2022 release and the Fight Night project over the next year. Nothing else is really known about Fight Night.

Fight Night's last entry was Fight Night Champion, which launched for the PS3 ten whole years ago. If the reporting is on the money, let's pray for fewer trophies like Squat Thrusting or those mad online belt achievements from Fight Night Round 4. Boo, we say: boo!

Are you ready for another night of fighting? Or another fighty night, for that matter? Let us know in the comments, you lightweight fools.
