Top PlayStation Store Downloads — October 2021

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
Sony has released the official list of top PlayStation Store downloads for the month of October 2021 on the PlayStation Blog. There are a few stand out games on there, with Kena: Bridge of Spirits and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy doing very well.

As for the PlayStation 5 games, the top ten looks like the following in the US: Far Cry 6 (1), FIFA 22 (2), Back 4 Blood (3), Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles (4), NBA 2K22 (5), Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (6), Madden NFL 22 (7), NHL 22 (8), Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (9), and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (10).

That leaves the EU List looking fairly similar at the top end: FIFA 22 (1), Far Cry 6 (2), Back 4 Blood (3), Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (4), Kena: Bridge of Spirits (5), Alan Wake Remastered (6), The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes (7), Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles (8), Diablo II: Resurrected (9), and Riders Republic (10).

FIFA 22

So, whist the expected games have dominated across both regions, it is interesting to see that Riders Republic has not had the same reception in the US as in the EU. Sports titles like Madden, NHL, and NBA have pushed out the EU's heavier focus on story-driven games like Kena, an action RPG like Diablo, and the aforementioned Riders Republic. The performance of Guardians of the Galaxy is certainly to be applauded though, given the release of huge blockbusters around it. Across the rest of the 20, Deathloop is at 12th in the US and 15th in the EU, suggesting the Arkane-developed PlayStation exclusive hasn't quite exploded onto the scene in the way both parties might have expected.

On the PS4, the top three is mostly the same, except that in the EU, Grand Theft Auto V has somehow made it into the third position and Back 4 Blood is nowhere to be seen. In fact, the EU list of the most downloaded PS4 games is devoid of many new titles, suggesting most digital gamers buying games are already playing on PS5. On PS VR, the top two for both regions consists of Beat Saber in first, and Job Simulator in second, with Batman VR in third in the US and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners in third on the EU store. eFootball 2022 tops the most downloaded free-to-play games on both lists, followed by Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone. Predictable, am I right?

What do you think of the lists? Are there any games you are surprised by? We are immensely happy to see Kena shoot that high in the EU! Let us know in the comments!
