PlayStation celebrates PSVR's 5th anniversary with extra PS Plus games

PlayStation VR is now a mighty five years old. To celebrate, the PlayStation Blog revealed that there will be three VR games added to the PS Plus lineup in November, and confirmed the most-played VR titles.

As part of the celebration, Isabelle Tomatis — the senior director of PS VR, eSports, peripherals marketing and licensing — wrote a lengthy blog post to commemorate the anniversary. PlayStation has promised that three unknown games will join the PlayStation Plus monthly games service for November, in addition to the normal PS5 game and two PS4 games.

"To celebrate this PS VR milestone, we wanted to give a special thank you to PlayStation fans: Starting in November, PlayStation Plus members will get three PS VR bonus games for no extra charge. Stay tuned for more details in the PlayStation Plus update in the next few weeks."

There is no word yet on what games these will be, but the use of "starting in November" indicates that this might become an ongoing service. Indeed, if backwards compatibility is a thing on PSVR 2, then that might be a great incentive for players to go out and buy the headset, as they will already have a huge library of games.

The post also lists the most played games globally, which are pretty much the games you would expect: Rec Room, Beat Saber, PlayStation VR Worlds, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. While Europe matched this list to a tee, North America fancied Job Simulator and Firewall: Zero Hour, and Japan was keen on Gran Turismo Sport in VR. It's a really interesting combination of games: a near-perfect mix of the big brand names and bespoke VR experiences. Though, we must say we are particularly pleased to see Firewall: Zero Hour in at least one list. Additionally, it seems clear that PSVR 2 is going to need a Rec Room facsimile for socialising. PlayStation Home, anyone?
