Konami developing new instalments and remasters of MGS, Silent Hill, Castlevania — report

Which Konami franchises do you like? Chances are that Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Castlevania series come to mind. The Japanese publisher is thinking the same, as rumours suggest that development on all three are in the works.

The report from VGC, apparently an anonymous publishing source let it loose that Konami is attempting to develop new instalments and remakes for its most well-known franchises. Due to the anonymity and the lack of quantitative data in this initial part of the rumour, we advise you to take some salt with it.

"Following a restructure to the company's game development divisions earlier this year, Konami is now focused on bringing back its biggest brands to the premium games space," the report reads. Apparently, the first game in development is a new Castlevania. It is described as a "reimagining of the series," a term a few faithful fans will not like to hear, and is currently being made in-house by Konami in Japan.

Metal Gear is allegedly getting a new entry. The project is supposedly with Virtuous, a team that has helped make Battlefield 1, Battlefield V, Uncharted 4, and others. However, multiple sources have reportedly advised VGC that the game is "centred around fan-favourite entry Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, rather than the original MGS." The publisher is allegedly trying to release remasters of the original Metal Gear Solid that will look up to date on modern consoles.

Now, an interesting note is that "multiple" Silent Hill games might currently be in development with external studios. This might give a little fire to the Abandoned rumours, but we aren't going to push it too far here. According to the sources, Konami is planning to publicly announce its plans at the major gaming events of 2022.

VGC is usually very reliable with its reporting, only publishing when it genuinely believes that there is something in it. Even so, we hope that salt is still with you, because you shouldn't get your hopes up until the official word is given. How about that? A new Metal Gear game based on MGS 3!
