PlayStation Studio Firesprite acquires Fabrik Games

Liverpool-based Firesprite might have only just joined the PlayStation Studios family, but it is already making moves to become even bigger. The studio, not Sony, announced it has acquired Fabrik Games, a small team in Manchester.

Firesprite is newly acquired by Sony and is allegedly being given the keys to some big projects under Sony. The team has now acquired Fabrik Games to help with that task. The small Manchester team previously helped Firesprite with The Persistence on PS4, though it also made Filthy Lucre and The Lost Bear. Graeme Ankers, the Firesprite managing director, also had his fingers in Fabrik as a founder (thanks, PushSquare), though, so this acquisition should be no surprise.

Firesprite is the size of the other UK-based Sony studios — Media Molecule and London Studio — combined, and with the new acquisition of Fabrik, the team is now as big as Sucker Punch or Bend Studio. The size of this team now would suggest that they are front and centre of Sony's gaming operations in the UK territory.

What would be your ideal game to come from Firesprite? Something VR-related, maybe? A new or old IP? Set fire to the fabrik of our comments section below!
