Deathloop review round-up

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
Arkane's Deathloop is a PlayStation exclusive FPS where you play as a hitman stick in a time loop. You are given several marks to kill, and your aim is to kill them all in one run. The game releases on September 14th. We have gathered up some reviews from the major outlets, so you can see if this looper-shooter is right for you!

IGN — 10/10

"Despite its seemingly endless complexities, Deathloop is one of the most confidently designed games I’ve ever played. Its unique, high-concept ideas around time loops and non-linear investigation work are implemented with elegance, making its systems feel effortless to navigate, learn from, and ultimately master. A new high watermark for Arkane and developers of similar games to aspire to, Deathloop is a game like no other."

PushSquare — 8/10

"Few games have the confidence and swagger of Deathloop. Packed full of charisma and wit, it's a game that can be played your way, with your own style and cunning. A very accomplished package of gameplay features supplies the goods, and the time loop delivers fun and deceitful opportunities over and over again. Deathloop may be the final game out of Arkane Studios to hit Sony consoles, but the developer goes out with an undisputed bang."

VGC — 5/5

"Deathloop is slick and inventive, with a delicious sense of style and humour. It distils Arkane’s hefty systems into something more explicitly playful, then leaves its sparkling cast to run riot in its huge interlocking puzzle of an island. One of the smartest and most outright entertaining games of the year."

GamesRadar — 4.5/5

"My impression of Deathloop seemed to shift with every passing hour and, as a result, it's difficult to not be impressed – if not thoroughly enthralled – with what Arkane has pieced together here. It's different, it's stylish, it's new. You won't play anything else quite like Deathloop for a very long time."

PC Gamer — 89/100

"A thoughtful response to Dishonored that makes for an entertaining stealth shooter in its own right, but it's the multiplayer invasions that make Deathloop sing."

"After dropping 30 hours into Deathloop, I still have many questions that I need answered. The more I find out, the more I need to know. Blackreef is a puzzle you won't be able to resist solving, an island you should visit as soon as possible."

Hey Poor Player — 4.5/5

"If you’ve been waiting for the PlayStation 5’s first true killer app, this is it. Deathloop is an innovative and satisfying take on the shooter genre that you can’t afford to miss. Developer Arkane Studios has managed Dishonored‘s rock-solid foundation and hone it to a razor’s edge. Sprawling, cerebral, and consistently exciting, Deathloop deserves a spot in every shooter fan’s PS5 library."

Hey, I'm Kes! I'm a Staff Writer, and I've been here since 2021. What do I like? The Outer Wilds is top notch. The Witcher 3 blew my mind over the course of five years completing it. I want Burnout back — I really miss crunching mechanical wonders into walls to the sound of Guns N' Roses. Cool, now we are acquainted, I'll see you around.
