God of War: Ragnarok gets first gameplay trailer [updated]

Update:
After the show, we got to see a little more from the Ragnarok director, and it is not Cory Barlog. Instead, he his working on another project, with Eric Williams directing God of War. The director then says: "We're gonna cap off the Norse series with [Ragnarok]." That indicates that the Norse arc will come to an end, but not that the games will be stopping. This might hint at what that girl is up to at the end of the trailer.

So, two games are in the works at Santa Monica Studio, at least, and this is the end of the Norse God of War Saga! If you can't get enough God of War, then check out the enlightening PlayStation Blog post, as well.

Original story:
Santa Monica Studio put together a gameplay trailer for the highly-anticipated PlayStation exclusive God of War: Ragnarok for the Showcase event. It featured story beats, combat, and gorgeous — gorgeous — graphics.

The trailer features Atreus growing up and defying his father, Kratos. The world looks a lot colder because the end of the world is nigh, and old friends seem to have turned on the father and son. The Leviathan Axe is back, along with the Chains of Olympus, and both feature in some brutal-looking combat. Thor makes an appearance, too! As do the dwarves, and a weird squid.

If we kept going we would be here all night! No firm release date just yet, although the PS Blog post does sign off with "see you next year!" so we can hold onto hope that it's going to be a 2022 release... it certainly looks to be a decent way along already. What did you think? Are you excited? Does anything stick out to you? Let us know in the comments!
