Destiny 2: The Witch Queen release date and details leak via PS Store

By Luke Albigés,
An Australian PS Store listing has let slip some juicy details on Destiny 2: The Witch Queen ahead of tonight's reveal. The next expansion is due to arrive on February 22nd, bringing with it a new weapon type, and more.

We just picked up the premature PS Store listing, which has a lot of fresh details, some of which corroborate other recent leaks. First up, the release date, which was initially picked up as being February 23rd. Destiny regulars might question this as it falls on a Wednesday and not the usual Tuesday reset day, but that actually checks out — it's an Australian listing after all, so the time difference would line up with the usual reset (when most expansions have tended to drop) and suggest a February 22nd launch in earlier time zones. In fact, the actual PS Store listing even confirms this, citing the official release date as February 22nd — 22/2/22.

Next up, the setting. As teased by yesterday short trailer (above), the main new destination will be Savathûn’s Throne World. According to the store description, this "plays host to a fragile balance of power. From her palace to the swamp, all that she hides can be found here." The listing goes on to describe The Witch Queen as "the definitive Destiny campaign," explaining that Guardians will "delve into Savathûn’s Throne World to uncover the mystery of how she and her Lucent Hive stole the Light."

Then, talk of a completely new weapon type. "Master the new Glaive weapon type and unleash powerful melee combos, projectile attacks, and a deployable energy shield," says the store page, suggesting this could be Destiny's first regular melee/ranged hybrid weapon. It also mentions a new weapon crafting system that will let players assemble "custom weaponry with unique mod, shader, and stat combinations," so we look forward to finding out more about both of these soon.

Finally, we see the preorder bonuses. The Throne World Exotic Ghost Shell, Enigma Exotic emote, and a new emblem look like they will be the standard extras for all preorder, but the listing — which is for the Deluxe Edition — also reveals the additional content this mega-bundle will bring, including "Seasons 16-19, two Year-5 Dungeons, an Exotic SMG, catalyst, ornament, and an Exotic Sparrow."

So there you have it... looks like Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will be coming February 22nd (or 23rd, depending on your time zone), and Savathûn has a lot up her sleeve. Will you be tuning in for the Destiny 2 Showcase later today to see all of this in action? Let us know!
