PlayStation Gameplay Chart: Ghost of Tsushima makes Top 10, Splitgate portals upwards

The big news across the chart this week is Ghost of Tsushima slaying into the Top Ten. Nearly as impressive is Splitgate's first entry onto the list, along with re-entries from some favourites in the lower echelons. The big news out of the Top 10 is undoubtedly Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut managing to eek in amongst the usual crowd of games patrolling Boring Central Station: Warzone (1), Cold War (2), Fortnite (3), Grand Theft Auto V (4), Apex Legends (5), FIFA 21 (6), Rocket League (7), Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut (8), Minecraft (9), and Genshin Impact (10). In a quick tour de force of some of these, it seems that the energy of GTA V's Tuners update has slowed a little as it is kicked out of the top three by the normal trio of CoD and Fortnite. FIFA 21 is still pumping out ridiculous cards with its annual Futties event and Rocket League has just started Season 4. Now, let's talk Ghost of Tsushima! It has crouch walked its way through the white-topped reeds and into the eighth position. We are seeing a huge split in audience, though. Amongst our tracked games, three times more are playing on PS4 compared to PS5! Wow. It seems the real draw here is Iki Island, as we suspect a few gamers were loath to pay the extra fee for traditionally free PS5 upgrades, just as Kes notes in his review of the game. Regardless, great stuff from Sucker Punch!

Just outside the Top 10 is Splitgate, the free-to-play "Halo meets Portal" arena-shooter. It went down a storm in the multiplayer community, perhaps a little too much. This is really not a bad place to start out on our chart, beating out Assassin's Creed: Valhalla despite the Seige of Paris DLC only dropping last week. Likewise, topping a game like Avengers, despite the War for Wakanda expansion coming out, will be disappointing for the Crystal Dynamics team, but a fantastic marker for Splitgate's developers. These are obviously not one-to-one comparisons, but it does give a good indication of what a roaring success the beta has been for Splitgate.

Cyberpunk 2077, Monster Hunter: World, Hades, and Street Fighter V have all made it onto the chart with entries and debuts. It is great to see all three listed, but we are a little flabbergasted that Supergiant Games' Hades is down in 37th when in our TrueAchievements review, Editor Luke said that he thought it was one of the best games in recent memory. A little sad, then, but at least it is faring better on the Xbox Gameplay Charts, where it was powered up to seventh last week by Game Pass!

Not a lot is happening in the world of PlayStation exclusives, but we have seen a huge drop off for the PlayStation Plus games, as anticipated. Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neightbourville is at sixteenth — down six — and Tennis World Tour 2 has impressibly only dropped by the same amount into twenty-fifth. Meanwhile, Hunter's Arena: Legends has really taken a hit with a ten position slide into twenty-eighth. In fairness, this is just an exaggerated slide from the normal PS+ drop-off and the games have held on well considering it was, without being unnecessarily mean, one of the weaker lineups in recent memory.
