Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is going standalone with extra content on September 3rd

Ghost of Tsushima added a Legends co-op mode last year for free. Now, Sucker Punch has confirmed that it is publishing the Legends mode as a standalone game on September 3rd, just after the release of the Director's Cut.

With a PS5 version and expanded Director's Cut on the horizon, one would be forgiven for thinking Sucker Punch didn't have much left in the tank. Well, it turns out the team do. On the PlayStation Blog, it was confirmed that on September 3rd the Legends co-op mode is getting a stand-alone release for $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 on PS4 or PS5. Of course, the game will still be bundled with standard editions of the main game, and if you wish to upgrade from the standalone Legends to the main Ghost of Tsushima game, you will have the option to do so for $40 / €50 /£44 on PS4 or $50 / €60 / £54 on PS5.

A new game mode is coming to Legends, called Rivals. Here, two teams of two compete against enemy hoards. Success gives you the ability to strike your rivals with certain special items. It seems like it will be quite a tactical bout, culminating in a Final Stand series of waves. If you beat this before the opposing team then you win, samurai!

There will also be a Gear Mastery system that allows you to further upgrade 110-level gear by binding it to a class and completing Mastery Challenges. With another 10 levels, you will get a second perk slot, new abilities, and new techniques. There are additional cosmetics to earn and plenty of tweaks and changes to balancing and mission variety which are coming on August 20th. From September 10th till October 1st, extra content will drop every day. This will include "an additional Rivals map, new Survival maps inspired by Iki Island and Iyo’s realm, and Trials of Iyo, a new harder-difficulty version of last year’s Raid."

Of course, there is a fresh trophy stack for the game and another DLC stack for the main game. Will you be picking this up standalone if you haven't already played Ghosts? If you have already played it, were you a fan of Legends? Will you be hopping back in? Let us know in the comments!
