Summer Sale: here are our top picks, but what are yours?

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
The Summer Sale is here! There are deals for plenty of massive PS4 and PS5 games, certainly enough to take the shine off the summer heat and get you in front of something new. We have put together three picks, but really, we want your contributions!

If you want to see the sale, then you can pop over to the PlayStation Store or the PlayStation Blog. Before you do though, our sale recap is much better than all of that stuff! It will help you compare regional prices, easily see the trophy lists, and help you negotiate the right time for you to pick it up on our sales tab on each game page.

Now, we have put together three team picks for you. That is only the start, however. We like to promote the community (that's you!) on TT as much as possible. If you leave your choice of game or what you might pick up in the Summer Sale down below, we will run a community picks piece as soon as possible featuring you! Is there something you would recommend that you have played? Something you have had your eye on? Or just a damn good deal? Just drop us a line!

I am a firm believer that this is one of the greatest games of all time. That is a huge statement to put out there, I know. Especially considering that I think for a few of you, it could be perceived as a bit exploratory, ethereal, and/or disjointed. The game is an adventure puzzler set around a dying star. Every 20 minutes of real-time, the star explodes, wiping out the solar system and all of its wonderful inhabitants and weird planets. The little space explorers from your planet have gone out to search for clues about a former race called the Nomai. You will set off in your little spaceship to find them and unravel the mysteries of the universe. The puzzles and planet designs are simply magnificent, the music is outstanding, and the written text logs display a mastery of sparse writing. There is not a lot of handholding, the 'tutorial' is all done in the first 20-minute loop. So that is it for my own introduction, too. I don't want to say any more, lest I spoil something for you. No game has ever made me consult life and death, the meaning of existence, or the joy of the human experience quite like this. If that doesn't do it for you alongside the 40% discount, nothing will.

A World That Changes Over Time
The planets of Outer Wilds are packed with hidden locations that change with the passage of time. Visit an underground city of before it’s swallowed by sand, or explore the surface of a planet as it crumbles beneath your feet.

There is no world or alternate dimension in which I wouldn't recommend that someone should play Far Cry 5, even more so when said game is sitting in a sale for a beautiful 87% off! Now, before you start firing off at me for it being “just another Far Cry game,” I’d like to say my piece first… it’s just another Far Cry game. That, ladies and gents, is exactly why it’s the perfect way to spend a few hours of your time! For this outing, we travel to Hope County, a fictionalised part of Montana, USA, where players can partake in fishing, hiking, paragliding, mountain climbing, and extremely frequent stand-offs with cult members that can — and will — end with someone being mauled by a bear. The fifth entry is Far Cry in all of its outrageously far-fetched glory, where taking yourself seriously is thrown out of the window for a small slice of entertainment and some beautifully scenic locales. That’s exactly what I hope to find when opening one of these games, at the very least.

Hope County, Montana, has been overrun by a fanatical doomsday cult – The Project at Eden’s Gate. On your arrival, you must spark the fires of resistance to liberate the community. Fan the flames of resistance and fight to free Hope County from the grip of a deadly cult. Beware the wrath of Joseph Seed and his cult followers as you support the resistance in small-town America. Explore Hope County and discover the Montana countryside, its wildlife, and its inhabitants in an exciting open world. Upgrade to the Gold Edition and get immediate access to all Deluxe Edition add-on content, plus the season pass. Supports PlayStation®4 Pro (now featuring 4K resolution).

If you didn’t pull the trigger on Mass Effect: Legendary Edition when it launched, perhaps a rather small discount off its original price will tempt you? Mass Effect Legendary Edition combines all three Mass Effect games into one neat package. BioWare has revisited each game and added a tonne of improvements with the Legendary Edition, including completely reworking Mass Effect’s combat and the Mako’s shocking handling, improving the visuals across the trilogy, overhauling trophy lists, and much, much more. Sure, the discount included in the sale isn’t that great, but for $44.99/£46.79/€54.59? I think that’s a steal for three of the best action-RPGs of all time, with nearly all of their DLCs included too. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is simply a must-buy for any gamer out there, even more so for trophy hunters as you can unlock three platinum trophies for the price of one and without having to complete the games on Insanity difficulty.
