Days Gone dev Bend Studio working on new multiplayer game - report

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
PlayStation Studios developer Bend — the team behind cult hit Days Gone — might be making a multiplayer game, if job listings are accurately reflecting the project.

GamesRadar picked up the listings on Bend's website last week. There is a position open for a senior network programmer that states the applicant will "contribute to our development process on a AAA game [by helping with] low-level network issues, multiplayer engine design/architecture, PSN platform services, digital rights management, patching and digital commerce."

Amongst the responsibilities for the position is one wherein they must "collaborate with the production team to develop aspects of the specified game-play experience from a technical perspective." Both aspects of the posting point to the studio needing help with creating a multiplayer experience. The gameplay programmer position also notes that the candidate will "create and maintain multiplayer gameplay systems in code and script." This now looks pretty dead set, and so the speculation about what exactly Bend will get up to can begin.

This news corroborates earlier rumours the Bend Studio was trying to make a Days Gone sequel with multiplayer components before Sony cancelled it and placed the developer on an Uncharted remake which apparently neither the developers themselves nor Naughty Dog wanted Bend to work on. We also know that this next project will be a new IP, offering an exciting new start for the studio.

What do you think? Are you concerned about the build-up of multiplayer games? Maybe you are just excited to see some variety in the PlayStation lineup? Either way, let us know down below!

Hey, I'm Kes! I'm a Staff Writer, and I've been here since 2021. What do I like? The Outer Wilds is top notch. The Witcher 3 blew my mind over the course of five years completing it. I want Burnout back — I really miss crunching mechanical wonders into walls to the sound of Guns N' Roses. Cool, now we are acquainted, I'll see you around.
