PlayStation Gameplay Chart: Scarlet Nexus breaks the monotony By Kes Eylers-Stephenson, 05 Jul 2021Scarlet Nexus — Bandai Namco's new JRPG — has made its debut on the chart to break up the deadlocked Gameplay Chart. Here is the top 40 PlayStation Gameplay Chart for the week ending July 4th, 2021.PositionGamePublisherLast week1 Call of Duty: Modern WarfareActivision12 FortniteEpic Games33 Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarActivision24 FIFA 21Electronic Arts45 Grand Theft Auto VRockstar56 Apex LegendsElectronic Arts77 Rocket LeaguePsyonix68 MinecraftMojang Studios89 Destiny 2Activision1010 Genshin ImpactmiHoYo1111 Ratchet & Clank: Rift ApartSony Interactive Entertainment912 Dead by Daylight 1/2505 Games1613 Overwatch: Origins EditionBlizzard Entertainment1414 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six SiegeUbisoft1515 Battlefield VElectronic Arts1316 Final Fantasy VII RemakeSquare Enix1217 NBA 2K212K Sports1918 Fall Guys: Ultimate KnockoutDevolver Digital1719 Red Dead Redemption 2Rockstar2020 Assassin's Creed ValhallaUbisoft1821 Ghost of TsushimaSony Interactive Entertainment2222 Mass Effect: Legendary EditionElectronic Arts2123 Days GoneSony Interactive Entertainment2424 Scarlet NexusBandai Namco Entertainment-25 Horizon Zero DawnSony Interactive Entertainment2626 Resident Evil VillageCapcom Entertainment2327 The Last of Us Part IISony Interactive Entertainment2828 Final Fantasy XIVSquare Enix2729 Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles MoralesSony Interactive Entertainment3130 Mortal Kombat 11Warner Bros. Maybe the gamer in question is messing around with something else, but you know that they have one of these on the go, too. Here they are: Warzone (1), Fortnite (2), Cold War (3), FIFA 21 (4), GTA 5 (5), Apex Legends (6),Rocket League (7), Minecraft (8), Destiny 2 (9), and Genshin Impact (10). Games have chopped and changed by a place or two, but other than Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart dropping out (as expected), nothing is happening. These are games fuelled by live service components so content dictates the state of play, but it really has been pretty much silent. FIFA 21 keeps ticking over thanks to the Euros with more cards. We won't keep you for long on this, but the cards are obscene. There are just so many 90+ rated cards at this point, nothing is special anymore. That said, players are now free to come up with weird and wacky combinations of teams without the fear of being slapped sideways by Pogba, Kante, and Werner every game. Don't miss out on great SBCs either. That is it. Congratulations on maintaining your friendly dictatorship over gamers, top ten. The big story out of the week, though, is the debut of Scarlet Nexus. The JRPG saw solid reviews and appears to be a hit with fans. It enters into the chart at 24th but has three times more players on PS5 than PS4. That is seriously impressive and suggests that it is there is a strong bond between the early adopters of next-gen and hardy JRPG fans. A reentrant to the list is Doom Eternal at 36. The game has a free next gen-patch that shows Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut up a little bit. Strangely, though, the player base is about 50/50 between PS4 and PS5. We imagine that the extra players now playing on PS5 topped up the PS4 count, thus pushing it into the top 40. This does reiterate, however, that games have extra staying power with next-gen in a way previously unseen. The once prevalent Battlefield V is now slide cancelling its way down the list as 2042 looms over it. Other games with hardy player bases operate in the teens, only interrupted by the fading light of Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade as its time in the limelight comes to an end. Likewise, Rift Apart is dropping a few places a week as the initial player base finishes the 12-hour game. If we had our betting hats on — do gamblers have betting hats? — we would say R&C will stop in the 30s and remain there as players keep picking it up with their new system. As for PlayStation exclusives, everything remains as was. While the megaton exclusives stick in the 20s, Miles Morales (29) and Astro's Playroom (33) have maintained a great position. We are used to seeing them slide up and down depending on PS5 stock, but now the pair have a really good steady standing for the first time in a long time. This intimates there is stock availability somewhere, so keep your eyes peeled. Scalped prices seem to be plummeting too and sellers are starting to commonly offer bundles to entice reluctant shoppers. This would all suggest that demand for the console through any means necessary is diminishing as official console stock heads back to shelves. Those elusive PS5s are around somewhere, gang!
