Did PlayStation Japan just leak Sony's acquisition of Bluepoint Games?

PlayStation Japan might have just dropped an absolute bomb by accident. In a now-deleted tweet, an attached image suggested that PlayStation Studios might be acquiring Demon's Souls PS5 remake developer Bluepoint Games.

Sony has just announced that PlayStation Studios have a new member with the acquisition of Housemarque. PlayStation Japan celebrated the announcement by accidentally announcing a 15th studio, as well. Nibellion caught the initial news on Twitter and PushSquare picked it up rapidly. The Japanese division posted the wrong image in a now-deleted tweet. This can be seen in the Nibellion post below or more cleanly in the image above.

The news not only seems legitimate, but likely to be coming soon. The Bluepoint graphic contains an image of Returnal just like in the Housemarque announcement, suggesting that this announcement was scheduled for sometime in the near future. The two look very similar though, so we feel very sorry for whichever social media manager is about to get a roasting.

Bluepoint has made several outstanding remakes in recent years. Demon's Souls was a PS5 launch game and the Shadow of the Colussus remake was also highly regarded when it launched, as was the remake of Ico. Arguably, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection was the weakest of its recent releases, as it was just a remastered collection of the first three games without any kind of additional content.

If Bluepoint has truly been acquired, expect to see the team become the go-to source for first-party remakes. If said games are all on the level of Demon's Souls, we are in for a treat!
