Babylon's Fall is getting absolutely dunked on

By Luke Albigés,
Platinum finally showed off some gameplay from its latest title, Babylon's Fall, at the Square Enix Presents E3 show yesterday. Sadly, to say that it hasn't gone down very well would be something of an understatement...

Between the curious art style, the apparent change in direction, the live service model of the game, and a general expectation for Platinum to deliver the goods, viewers have been quick to smash that dislike button on the above trailer. At the time of writing, dislikes outweigh likes by a factor of more than 5:1. A few of the other trailers from Square's 'Guardians of the Galaxy and some other stuff' event are getting similarly savaged — Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is pretty much 50/50 — but not to this crazy extent.

Review bombing in general has been on the rise in recent years, with entire communities rising up to slam things in an attempt to send a message to developers and publishers. While it isn't clear how much of the Babylon's Fall hate here is organic and how much is organised, it's not looking good for the game either way. I actually didn't mind the trailer and will probably still pick this up, but then I'm not really the best barometer — I'm a sucker for these kinds of games anyway, and you could slap the Platinum logo on a bin and I would dive in willingly, declaring it the best bin ever in the process.

What did you make of the trailer, then? Deserving of this much ire, or not so much? Let us know! If anyone needs me, I'll be in my bin...
