Bethesda's Starfield and Obsidian's Outer Worlds 2 are Xbox exclusives

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
Microsoft announced that two western RPGs will be Xbox console exclusives at yesterday's press conference. In an impressive showcase of its upcoming games, the team in green revealed Bethesda Softworks' new spacefaring epic Starfield and Obsidian's sequel to The Outer Worlds — ingeniously called The Outer Worlds 2 — will not be coming to PlayStation. Watch out, though, as all game links here will take you to our sister site, TrueAchievements.

An unfortunate leak from the Washington Post dampened this reveal a little, but Microsoft and Bethesda gave us a flavour-filled bite of Starfield with the cinematic trailer above. The sci-fi RPG will launch on exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10 on November 11th, 2022, leaving us PlayStation gamers in the vacuum of space. The RPG was first 'seen' at Bethesda's E3 conference back in 2018, but very few details have been revealed since. In the cinematic trailer, we find out that the universe has been about 25 years in the making. A pilot powers up their ship and a robot stomps around. A base can be seen in the background, suggesting a mechanic of the game will be Fallout 4-style base-building.

The Outer Worlds 2

Obsidian Entertainment and Microsoft also announced that The Outer Worlds 2 is an Xbox exclusive with a quite brilliant cinematic trailer during the showcase. There is no information other than the existence of the game, though the trailer smartly acknowledges all this with a wry voiceover saying the team "haven't finished the design, or the finished the story, or finished any gameplay that's ready to show." It is always nice to get a heads-up!

So, now the rumours have been put to bed — particularly about Starfield — how are we feeling out there? Is there more than enough to sink your teeth into elsewhere, or is this now a huge hole in your calendar? Let us know in the comments!
