New Battlefield reveal coming next week

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
The next Battlefield game is going to be revealed next week, my fellow veterans. On June 9th there will be a live stream on the official Battlefield YouTube channel at 7am PT/3pm BST/4pm CEST.

Over the last few months, there have been several near misses for EA. On two separate occasions, stills from the trailer leaked but now they look to have finally made a set date for the official charge out of the trenches of development secrecy. Now, in these exciting ten seconds, there are a few details to latch onto. The first is that the game appears to be just called Battlefield, rather than Battlefield 6. This detail could just be further secrecy from the marketing generals at EA, but several insiders have been long speculating that the simple title would be the final one. If so, 'Battlefield' might suggest the game is looking to end constant iteration and be around for the whole generation.

The next details of the battle plan to parse are all the modern blue hues and the eardrum-destroying theme music. Rumours place the game in the near-future and this snippet of video has done nothing but intensify that possibility. The colour gradients remind me of the futures imagined on-screen in Denis Villeneuve's Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. The music is very scratchy and distorted, sounding like it could have been put through a few bits of tech in ways I can't possibly conceive. It's truly awful. Anyway, it's all giving me future vibes.

Battlefield 5 was a recent monthly game on PS+, so give that a go if you fancy hopping back into large-scale warfare. Credit where credit is due, there is a vibrant community as alluded to in our gameplay chart and the game is much improved since launch.

Let's hope for official confirmation about the next Battlefield on June 9th at 7am PT/10am ET/3pm BST/4pm CEST with some gameplay. Are you excited and reading into these minute, probably irrelevant, details? Your favourite Battlefield? Duke it out in the comments.
