End of the road for five Need for Speed games, servers closing on August 31st

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
Five Need for Speed titles are about to have their servers shut down: Carbon, The Run, Shift, Shift 2: Unleashed, and Undercover. The games were delisted yesterday, but they will be gone for good (at least their online component) when the servers are closed on August 31st.

As with all news about games that are deeply coveted by fans but are about to go to sleep for a long time, the information was shared on Reddit by the community manager u/Max_Joker. On 31st May the announcement was made, then all five games were delisted from digital stores and the in-game storefronts were discontinued. All online services for these games are set to close on August 31st.

Those trophies you have been meaning to wrap up? Well, now is the time, fellow racers. The Run is the game with a serious trophy issue. One trophy — King for a Day — has been impossible to earn for some time because the Autolog services were discontinued years ago.

None of these games are easily accessible on new hardware, so you'll have to travel back in time or dust off that PS3. You'll also probably want to drive by the Gaming Sessions page to try and find some pals to race responsibly with.

Is this like a death in the family for you? Anything you have been meaning to pick up? Let us know in the comments where I will see you again (Wiz Kalifa, ft. Charlie Puth).
